WirtsLegs Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 (edited) With the release of Afghanistan map, the Kiowa, the upcoming chinook and the previously released Apache infantry are becoming MUCH more relevant in DCS. There are countless threads on ground AI and behaviour but thats not what this is about We need more red and neutral infantry and emplacements, instead of just a stuck kneeling RPG soldier and a handful of units with AK-74s Specifically: Civilians: we need civilian assets (there are mods for vehicles but not infantry) as a common challenge in afghanistan thats relevant to these new modules is VID, and discerning enemy fighter from civilian bystander. Being able to have people on rooftops and in fields that the player cant just assume are enemy combatants would add a lot of depth to the game. I would suggest just a few models, male and female that would feel in place for a few of our maps. Enemies: a bit more variety here would be good, give us a mortar team that can pick up and move, a guy with a shovel (think planting IED), and a few variants of the generic rifleman ideally Emplacements: trenches, mounted machine guns, bunkers, etc basically statics that shoot, we need more of them, we need to be able to have a machine-gun or atgm position that is small, somewhat disguised, and able to engage targets, and most importantly isnt an infantry unit that will run in circles the moment the target returns fire Any amount of all of these will be a big help, not asking for new behaviours or AI in this, just a few more models basically. Gunfreak Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Yes, new modeles with new animations are planned to be somewhat related to the development of Afghanistan map/COIN maps. We've seen a few fractions of seconds of US troops marching and a new insurgent type model firing. 2 i7 13700k @5.2ghz, GTX 5090 OC, 128Gig ram 4800mhz DDR5, M2 drive.

But regarding the new models, those look great but not really what I'm on about, I'm looking for more infantry types not new models for existing infantry. The main asks here are the civilian infantry and emplacements(gun positions etc), neither of which there are any good mods for that im aware of? Edited July 16, 2024 by WirtsLegs
upyr1 Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 With the Afghan map, I'd love to see some 1980s Soviet infantry as well as DHSK machine gun nests 3

If we look forward to Vientam the DHSK was the main anti aircraft weapon in the south. Even stuff like Zu23 was very rare south of the DMZ. Having read stories from Helikopter pilots in Vientam, they could fly 1 or 2 tours and only see small arms and the 12.7. Same with fast movers that mostly flew south of the DMZ, if they got a briefing about 37mm guns in the area, they knew it was serious stuff. 4 i7 13700k @5.2ghz, GTX 5090 OC, 128Gig ram 4800mhz DDR5, M2 drive.

Northstar98 Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Yes - would absolutely love to see all of the above. More infantry (there's plenty of countries that don't have anything and even the countries that do have infantry aren't anything like comprehensive). It would be great if we could change the loadout of infantry, even just the primary weapon. We only have one man-portable anti-tank system on quite an outdated asset. There are no western MANPATS at all, nor are there any tripod mounted anti-tank systems (only vehicle mounted). We only have 2 MANPADS (considering the Igla and Igla-S currently fire the same missile), there are plenty of Cold War MANPADs missing (namely the 9K32M Strela-2M [SA-7B Grail]) For civilians, personally it would be better if they were their own separate coalition/side, though we can make do with the current neutral one (just so long as there are no other neutral units). We are lacking a side that's hostile to both red and blue though. But yes, I'd definitely appreciate civilian units and not just land units, but aircraft and ships (though they should be a distinct second to military assets). As for entrenchments, I would love to see it, but I have a hunch it'll probably require imporvements to the terrain engine to facilitate it, a certain tank game recently implemented them and even better they were made procedural. 1 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. Kappa-131st Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 (edited) It's a shame that you must download mods to have a diversity of infantry. The community ask for more infantries units for more than a decade, et ED promise us more infantries models for at least 3-4 years. Why can ED not manage to put diversified infantry units when the community can? All of the mods below were created less than 3 years ago (After ED's promise...), there are long-range ATGMs, short-range rocket launchers, snipers (anti-personnel or anti-equipment), mortars, grenade launchers, tripods with ATGM, MANPAD or 12.7... There is a real threat even to helicopters! Currenthill : Dimitriov : And more and more mods with infantries or civilians... ED, if you don't have time to create new models, suggest an integration of Currenthill models like you did with massun's pack! Edited August 31, 2024 by Kappa-131st
