instead of "default" auto?

even i set to auto, when i switch between rockets and guns or reselect guns, it won't stay "auto". it changes to 1500 again.

why i have to change everytime gun range? what is the point?

WAS'ing a weapon will always set back to the manual range setting if the sight source is HMD, this is intended, but can be changed to any value between 100m to 50km.

The reason manual ranging is better is most circumstances is how the automatic ranging works in the weapons processor. It makes an assumption that the height of the terrain along the HMD's LOS is at zero feet radar altitude. This basically means that the system assumes that the helicopter is flying over perfectly flat terrain, and ranges based on the assumed slant range instead of actual slant range.

From page 578 of the DCS AH-64D Early Access Guide (Frequently Asked Questions):

Manual range is the most reliable range in the circumstances described above because it gives the crewmember direct control over the range source without incurring inaccuracies that would be present when using an Automatic range whenever the target is at a different elevation than the ground directly beneath the helicopter.

auto isn't a great system to use. It's why people set a range they know, 800, 1,000, 1,500, etc. It has been explained multiple times.
