Hey everyone,

I'm having some trouble getting my graphics settings optimized for smooth gameplay in DCS. My system should be able to handle it (Ryzen 7 5800X3D, RTX 3080, 32GB RAM), but I keep experiencing stutters and FPS drops, especially in VR. I've tried adjusting the settings like shadows, terrain textures, and anti-aliasing, but I can't seem to find the right idioms balance between visual quality and performance.

Does anyone have a recommended setup for settings that works well for both regular and VR gameplay? I would love some tips on what settings impact performance the most and how I can tweak them to get a smoother experience.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Elena welcome to the forum,

can I ask you to attach your dcs.log it can be found in your saved games dcs log folder.

It should help us look for clues.

Please ensure hotplug in dcs controls is disabled, this sometimes helps

If you have any third party scripts running in saved games dcs scripts folder its a good idea to remove them just to rule those out also.

best regards

Make sure that the viewing distance (draw distance - I don't no the exact label from the top of my head) isn't set too high. With your GPU you might profit from the use of DLSS. In the gameplay options you might want to turn off wake turbulence. Water is another thing to reduce if performance is not sufficient. Last but not least try to test different (lower) settings for pixel density.

What setting do you mean? The slider on the right side in the option menu or the drop down menu (low to extreme)?

The latter. The draw distance for scenery details. That is quite impactful for fps beyond high.

i tested different settings from normal to extreme and didn't noticed any difference in performance. Maybe on systems with lower vram it can cause issues?

Ciao a tutti,

Grazie in anticipo.

In my case having a CPU I7 12700K, the problem is the HT, in fact if I enable it in my bios the simulator stutters! It is a known problem in DCS for the latest generation CPUs, the developers know it but they still haven't found a valid remedy for this problem!

well the best thing to suggest isto know what Hz rate you run at and keep the GPU Frametimes under your reccomended milliseconds.. so if you run at 90hz  your frametime should be under 11.1ms.. if it goes over that you get stutter..

Usually the resolution you set it at has a big factor to keeping the FT down.. that and some settingis n DCS like view distance and terrin textures and textures..

Maybe it‘s not so impactful as I remembered. Back when I did my controlled benchmarks it was one of the more impactful settings - along with water and shadows.

But that was two years ago or so….
