davew Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I've done a search for similar problems on the forum but I couldn't find anything where a fix was mentioned... I am running LOMAC v1.02 on Vista 32-bit, and have a problem with the engine (and other) sounds cutting out during flight after a minute or two. Once the sounds cut out I hear only what I assume is wind noise for a minute or two and then suddenly the engine sound comes back. Has anyone found a solution to this issue? is it fixed in Flaming Cliffs? Kind regards Dave
joey45 Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 soundcard??? The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. davew Posted May 30, 2009 Author Posted May 30, 2009 M-Audio Delta 66, which is more optimised towards studio work than games. My machine also has a built in (realtek most likely) audio chipset, which is deactivated in the BIOS. Kind regards Dave
CHola Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 (edited) I had the same problem once...I can't remember what was it related to, but wasn't sound setting (strange)...something to do FPS/graphics...bah, if I remember will post  Remembered. There's a sound.cfg file in Sound directory. Some addons tweak values from there (grrr forgot what which means), in order to get more FPS from the engine, while playing. So, I commonly lost all noncockpit sound, when tweaked those values. This is especially true, if you got sound acceleration set to "NONE" (in DXdiag screen), which also grants you more FPS out of the engine... Hope this helps (it's been a while, so I forgot the details) Cheers, Cola Edited May 31, 2009 by CHola Cheers, CHola
104th_Crunch Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Maybe your doing +Mach 1? Engines go quiet when this happens.
davew Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 (edited) Actually, having played some more today it seems more complicated than I described. It definately seems related to speed, but not in the way I'd expect. If I'm subsonic and then hit the afterburners, once I reach mach 1 the engine sound drops away and I hear just wind - that's expected. However, if I slow down again after a few seconds I get *complete* silence (not even any wind) until I go subsonic, then I hear everything again. What should I be looking for in sound.cfg? Kind regards Dave Edited May 31, 2009 by davew
Vekkinho Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Yeah, that's cool, when you travel >Mach 1 you're faster than a speed of sound so engine/wind sounds can't reach you. Whan you slowdown subsonic you'll hear your engines and all other sounds...So you've no problems at all! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
davew Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 That's not quite what I'm getting though - if I accelerate up to mach 1 and leave the throttle fully open, I hear only wind. It's only if I start to decelerate (say when maneuvering or reducing throttle) then I hear no sound at all, not even wind, until I go subsonic again. It's like all the sound cuts dead. Thanks! Dave
Vekkinho Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 When you go supersonic while in cockpit and kick in AB can you hear cockpitafterburner.ogg file being looped?! You shouldn't IRL but it's a bug in LOFC so let's say it's correct! So the only files you should hear being supersonic is the afterburner noise and cockpitsystems.ogg. You can't hear any engine noise as you're faster than a sound engines create. When you decelerate subsonic all active sound files (engines, wind, cockpit systems, Afterburmer) should be audible. Try doing a test, go supersonic and whan you lose all sounds, try kicking AB. If you can hear afterburners - you're good (in fact you shouldn't hear it IRL). Then try radio transmissions! Call your wingmen, AWACS, Tower and if you can hear your own voice and the voice of the one you called replying back at you - you're good again! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Kuky Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 actually even when supersonic you should still hear some engine sounds as not all sound you hear is from outside, some sound is transferred from within aircraft fuselage and this is not affected by your speed as air inside the airframe relative to you is stationary. CHola Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 What should I be looking for in sound.cfg? Well, I can't remember exactly...'t was long ago...but this is a typical line. Su27BackEngine { Mode3D = true; Loop = true; Front = false; Inside = 90; Outside = 180; Volume = 1.0; Silence = 0.01; Size = 100; Radius = 5000; Group = "Engine"; } So, it may be "Mode3D"=off; "Inside/Outside" ranges screwed; Size=screwed; Radius=screwed. May be something else, but I can remember those usually being tweaked. My advice would be to revert to default sound.cfg. I'd send you one, but I'm running Flaming Cliffs and I'm not sure whether those two are compatible. Cheers, Cola Cheers, CHola

It is being heard but only engine sounds that are recorded and present within cockpitsystems.ogg! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
davew Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 I'll have to muck about a bit more to be sure, but I think installing one of the sound mods from lock on files might have sorted it. Will let you know. Kind regards Dave

davew Posted June 1, 2009 Author Posted June 1, 2009 Frazer - thanks for the tip, I'll be sure to check it out. I'm only flying F15 right now though, and I take it from the thread that this isn't done yet. Kind regards Dave
davew Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 hmm, a few further observations after I went back to the default sounds:- 1. Installing a soundpack definately seems to fix this issue. So far though I've tried Archers, TUaF and ZZAP and I only get the issue with the default sounds. 2. I also get the issue coming out of pause sometimes - if I tickle the throttle the sound comes back however. I didn't test this with the soundpacks but IIRC this worked OK as well. Anyway, I'm open to any and all soundpack recommendations as it does seem to fix the problem! Kind regards Dave
Frazer Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 The LockOn sound system is simply very buggy......there are more bugs which you may not notice atm. I can tell you 10 more bugs right away, although I don't want to spoil the fun so I better not. :smilewink: Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
