Speaking for the planet, it's a good thing both, AMD & Intel,  need less wattage for the same amount of work as their predecessors. At least for this round the spiral of ever increasing wattage and heat on even smaller dies has been paused. I think, Intel is more cautious this time and wants to avoid a 2nd debacle by all means, even if they just dial in performance to "parity" but stay within safe limits of the circuits. If I had such a CPU I would not OC it until guys who dont have to pay for them have found their limits and some time has passed to see if something emerges in the news, wouldnt surpise me, teething issues as with every new tech, like Zen 1 as many already said. This won't happen with like a dozen Bios updates and all of them will have their reasons. Time will tell.

I am still keen on the 9800X3D, even if I loose 4 cores.

edit: OC yes, almost a thing of the past. RAM tinkering can be more rewarding than trying to pump 50-100w more through the CPU for 5% more performance. Same for the GPU.

Exactly.
Not good for the shareholders, for sure.
The gap in sales numbers increased since the 13th/14th gen degradation fiasco, and it'll now grow even more (prepare to pay more for AMD now).

Meanwhile, it's a shame that AMD didn't improve that much with Zen5 as well, the goal posts would have provoked a bigger step-up, and we'd all benefit from it.
But then, as it is with Arrow Lake, they don't even need to (and wont?) improve now.
So, basically, we're heading back to where we were a decade ago, but the roles have now been reversed.

The way I see it, this is a "Bulldozer" moment for Intel. But then if AMD survived that dark period, so can Intel.
Just how much and how long will it take for Intel to get (if they can) the necessary improvements is the next chapter of the story, and what makes this interesting.

The only thing now is to wait for AMD to -as per usual, miss their opportunity and giving any advantage they could have over Intel away 😆

Not sure how much has changed over the years, but PassMark scores used to be of little-to-no-indication of gaming performance. It used to be just a cut above the dumpster-fire that is UserBenchmark.

I wouldn't use that score for anything other than predicting weather.

Synthetic benchmarks have always been "iffy" and very easily manipulated at the driver\bios level. You need real-world performance if you really want to benchmark anything properly. Please check out Gamer Nexus very in-depth performance and efficiency benchmarking of this CPU.

Bullsh*t.  The one that most were looking for?  LOL  Anyone with even half a clue wouldn't take advice from this guy.  Clearly full of himself, and claims that the reason people can't get the most out of these new Intel pieces of junk is that they don't know how to do it without him.  Get a 7800X3D if your competency is low...what an a$$ clown.

He's not 'telling it like it is" just because he can't say three words without flinging an F-bomb.  Unless you do what he says, it's not worth sh*t.  If you don't purchase his "course" you'll never be able to do it.

Plenty of people were overclocking CPUs, *years* before this yo-yo....yet he's the only one who can get it right.  And you have to pay for a course?

Wow.  What a "f***ing" loser.

PS He's also not the only person who uses his own money (only, as in no sponsor bias) to run a shop, test components, and make recommendations - only some people do it without trying to hawk their 'course' lol

Free professional advice: Do not rely upon any advice concerning computers from anyone who uses the terms "beast" or "rocking" to refer to computer hardware.  Just...don't.  You've been warned.

While we're at it, people should stop using the term "uplift" to convey "increase".  This is a technical endeavor, we're not in church or at the movies - and it's science, not drama.

He's been around for quite a while and knows his way very well around stuff, and is severely underrated (his somewhat obnoxious tone doesn't help him, I guess).
It's one of very, very few people in the tech space that doesn't give a hoot if it hurts or not the manufacturers/brands (and fanboys) of whatever product, sponsorship and samples be damned etc, as he fully relies in his own community and related business for own funding. Tells like it is, and calls a spade a spade, every time.

But, from that to recommending his (or any) course goes a looooong way.
I have no interest in that, and honestly can't see why would anyone here would need it.

OK but he was acting like nobody will know how to OC the 285 without his course, I guess he is just trying to sell his product.. either way I would be interested in seeing his next video on the OC and comparrison of other CPU's..

Yet, others do know how.  And if you're willing to work at it and study, they don't charge for a 'course'.

Fascinating.

Do the legwork.  Plenty of people online know this guy is nothing but a douchebag wannabe, trying to sell stuff.

It's been commented in various other videos, of other youtubers, that the 285K "Error Lake" (lol) comes quite a bit effed up right out of the box, that there's a lot to tune but then is quite complex to OC (far more than before).

Some sell modmats, hoodies, hats or t-shirts... he builds and tweaks systems, and gives lessons.
That complexity in OC'ing the 285K seems like an opportunity he sees to promote his own business.  :dunno: (or at least that's what I take from it)

As usual, I simply ignore that part and take the rest that interest me from his video(s).

....ooh you'd be surprised how many people in competitive gaming (so called "Esports") look for the last little bit of performance edge to get some advantage (and pay for it). 😬
