spike2450 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Hi I've just purchased a Saitek x52 and was wondering how other other users of the seperate joystick and throttle position there controllers. i.e. do you have the throttle on the table with the joystick in your lap, is it best to make another platform to position your throttle etc. any advice or an image of your setup would be great. I've found that positioning the throttle on the desktop will cause arm ache after extended flying and there's no great control / stability in having your joystick in your lap with only the one hand in control. :joystick: All help is appreciated.
fox_111 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 By trottle you mean collective? Because the trottle is something else in an helicopter.
Jack McCoy Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Set your stick and throttle on tables/chairs/boxes/CPU cases that are roughly the height of your seat. That's the cheapest solution, but will already add a much better feeling. i7-7700K@4.8GHz, 16Gb-3200, GTX-1080Ti-Strix-11Gb, Maximus IX Hero, Oculus Rift, Thrustmaster Warthog+F/A-18C, Logitech G940 Pedals.
Jack McCoy Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 He means the hardware throttle quadrant, like it says on the cardboard box. i7-7700K@4.8GHz, 16Gb-3200, GTX-1080Ti-Strix-11Gb, Maximus IX Hero, Oculus Rift, Thrustmaster Warthog+F/A-18C, Logitech G940 Pedals.
Safari Ken Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I just put the throttle on the left of my keyboard, and the joystick on the right, like when I fly fixed-wing sims. I admit it's not the most realistic for a chopper, but it's comfortable for me, which is what I consider most important. Besides, I made a concession to reality when I finally put my rudder pedals on the floor. :P
Bulletstop Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I have the throttle on the left, stick on the right, and peddals on the floor, best I could do with my desk. Bullet I7 4790K running at 4390 with a gigabyte board with 16 gigs of ram with an Asus gtx 660-ti and 2 tb of hard drive space on 2 wd hard drives. A X-65F Hotas with trackir4 and pro combat peddles. A kick butt home built machine unfortunately running a windows 7 OS.
sshantt Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 I have a pretty high chair so when i place my joystick on my table it feels like its coming out from between my legs and it feels perety low and i also place it in the middle. I dont own an x52 but an extreme 3d pro but im giong to get the saitek and when i do ill put the joystick in the middle with the collective on a small table on my left. BTW i dont use my keyboard at all i use my joystick and VAC (and the mouse to stat and shut down on the gound) if you want try the VAC profile i made try this link: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=42272&highlight=VAC+profile [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Frazer Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 (edited) Simple but effective. I screwed the HOTAS on a wooden plate, took two chairs, drank two crates of beer, put them on the chairs and there you go. As most tables and chairs have the same hight, you always have the HOTAS in the right position, no matter where you go (just bring the HOTAS plate and two crates of beer, not a big deal :smilewink:). As you can see I use skateboarders pads. This is for two reasons; At first, you can slide it over the chair as you go in for a pull, preventing "arm locks" due to friction. Secondly and may be even more important, save your elbows. Next to protecting your elbows, it also allows you to fly much longer without fatigue. Swetrekki Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 here is how i solved it, (ill post a pic when i get the websrv up and running again) remove the armrest of your chair, build a L shaped bracket from wooden, and secure it to the chair. Fasten the stick and throttle to the brackets and your all set. it works like a charm :) even tough the wife's friends is having a bit of a laugh at it...
Frazer Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Interesting how people find their own solutions to things ;) I'm too lazy to do even that though :D I'm *thinking* of building a pit for about 3 years now......I think it will never come lol. HitchHikingFlatlander Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 This is how I fly but to more casual simmers the approach of modding your office chair might be a better way of getting things done. http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
