Safari Ken Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 http://i.gizmodo.com/5285690/ultra+hd-military-f+16-flight-simulator-runs-on-120-pc-graphic-cards Count me in!
topol-m Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 OMG crazy stuff. :joystick: However they have to make it more Home PC friendly, a lot more... :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Toxe Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Well... Is there more to see than this one picture? A video maybe? Because to be honest for 120 graphics cards this still looks rather crappy to me. I would have expected something better looking.
deadsmell Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I wonder if it would be possible to have a program like that work with 120 computers connected via WAN. Heck if that was the case, and the software was available, people could start little clubs, and they could all have their computers running the program for one guy to play, and they could all take turns. (yeah that'll happen :) ) looks cool though. I wish that arenalogic would get serious about putting a variation of their product on the market. Dont let the smell get to ya...............
Safari Ken Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 At the end of the Gizmodo blurb, there's a link to a more detailed article on military.com.
graywo1fg Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I ordered mine yesterday. who wants to come over and fly? :P Pfffft i wish Voice of Jester AI Death From Above =DFA= Squadron Discord - https://discord.gg/deathfromabove http://www.twitch.tv/graywo1f https://www.youtube.com/user/Lonewo1fg
Safari Ken Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 Well... Is there more to see than this one picture? A video maybe? Because to be honest for 120 graphics cards this still looks rather crappy to me. I would have expected something better looking. Keep in mind it's not just 120 graphics cards. It's 120 dual-core PC's with graphics cards, running in parallel. It's not just about the graphics. From the blurb: "...according to the company, the 120 networked PCs give you the most complex and accurate flight simulator out there, with high-fidelity environments, actual world destruction and explosions with physics simulation, and up to 10,000 simultaneous entities on screen in urban environments."
ED Team f-18hornet Posted June 10, 2009 ED Team Posted June 10, 2009 I want this game. I just need another 119 graphic cards to play.:joystick: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, GeForce RTX 2080Ti, 32 GB DRAM, HOTAS TM Warthog, FSSB R3 Lighting, MFG Crosswind, Win 10 Pro
Boberro Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Nice *tool* :surprise: Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Frazer Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I have no doubt that this new simulator is the best one out there, though seeing the picture there i'm quite disappointed. I think you can do much more with 120 computers? This still looks very simmy ;) 1 Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
spyda Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 looks like a heap of fun, nice crisp graphics of the mountains etc HP TouchSmart IQ816 / 25.5" HD touch screen / 9600GS 512/ Core 2 Duo 2.16 / 4GB RAM / VISTA 64 / CH Fighterstick
Safari Ken Posted June 11, 2009 Author Posted June 11, 2009 Of course it doesn't look its best in a photograph. The color gets all weird and the perspective is messed up. But it says the sharpness is roughly equivalent to 20/40 vision. Pretty damn crisp indeed!
-fox- Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 This article features a working video-link: http://kotaku.com/5286561/this-flight-sim-needs-120-graphics-cards-just-to-get-off-the-ground 2
Frazer Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Thanks for that link. Now we have a much better impression of the scenery. I must say, the sensation of speed through these mountains is truly sensational! :pilotfly: Still though, I think the colors and atmospheric effects can be improved. Would love to see it with more clouds aswell. Next to that, the bended screens there are not that nice. For the pilot they may seem not that obvious, though a round screen would be better. Wouldn't mind to have this one in my room though :D Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
mvsgas Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I bet that in simulator you can fly anywhere in the world and it will be very detail. Plus, you have all the actual systems and faults of an aircraft. That alone most need a lot of computing power. DCS BS can simulate a lot but it does not have everything, I bet this simulator is awesome to play with.:joystick::pilotfly: To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
-fox- Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 (edited) This simulation can't feature everything either - you'd need the Matrix to do that. Our world is incredibly complex and right now it's not even possible to create realistic AI. There's still so much room for simulations... Edited June 12, 2009 by -=fox=-
