MPalmer Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 at a 90TQ hover after making the airframe overweight. I ran a repair and retried with the same results. YoYo Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Well, the difference is quite big here, but 106% should still be okay , flying KW is a constant dilemma between armament and fuel . Ramsay Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) Overweight aircraft handles hover with ease. 5 hours ago, MPalmer said: at a 90TQ hover after making the airframe overweight. The 1999 OH-58D Operators Manual "Hover Power Required (Figure 7-4)" chart gives an ~90% TQ estimate for a 230ft MSL / 7ft IGE Hover for the parameters shown in your screen shot (assuming a ~15°C FAT) - so the "in game" TQ looks correct. Originally the KW's max gross weight was 5500 lbs, this was later reduced to 5200 lbs to improve safety margins during autorotation, etc. Quote barundus — 01/04/2020 21:14 In the case of the KW, max gross weight was 5200 lbs. This is due to aerodynamic performance in autorotation. Above 5200 lbs, the rotor tends to overspeed so fast and the sink rate so great it's difficult to perform a successful autorotation. Structurally, the "real" limit is 5500 lbs, but the engineers reduced that to 5200 in the mid-90s. In the case of the KW, the aircraft could take off at greater than 5200 lbs, however 1) this was illegal, and 2) You'd be at near max performance in most environmental conditions. https://discord.com/channels/303482672834019330/668295455863472188/695003287786881025 Edited December 7, 2024 by Ramsay i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
MPalmer Posted December 7, 2024 Author Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) The flight Dynamics are off from the previous build...i need a better reference then someone saying it...like a manual page number. that I can pick up and read. I had the case of transmission/engine meltdown for the exact same weights 3 months ago...which I was famously dubbed, "flaming burrito" Edited December 7, 2024 by MPalmer Marvin "Cactus" Palmer DCS:World 2.5(ob) Gigabyte Z390 Designare i7-9700K (4.6GHz), 32Gb RAM (3600MHz), GTX2070, 40" 1080p Monitor, TM Warthog, Saitek Rudder pedals,TM Cougar MFD, and an ipad.

Might have to sift through about 150 pages to find relevant data and charts. Last I checked, we had greater performance at altitude that exceeded a 407's capabilities in certain conditions, but began to line up when high temperatures were introduced. I haven't done any detailed testing since, but a quick test of 2000ft MSL, 0C with 100% fuel, M3P/500, and 2xAGM-114 allows me a max hover at ~28ft AGL, with a few times exceeding the mast torque limits. Also, exceeding MTOW doesn't mean you can't take off or that the aircraft will instantly be crippled and fall to pieces, Half-Life extreme gravity style. Certain configurations are in fact allowed for specific missions (like the AH-64 ferry configuration) which significantly exceed MTOW. 1
MPalmer Posted December 7, 2024 Author Posted December 7, 2024 Thanks for the explanation! So the update actually made the aircraft more compliant with the real airframe. okay then...back to the 'pit to relearn it. So the remarks are...Correct as is!!!!
