LukeFF Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I really hope this is something being improved for future releases, because ATM it doesn't work completely right. Case in point: the first time I ran the "Death Valley" mission, the AI Ka-50s simply start taxiing to the runway as soon as their systems are up and running. They don't wait for the flight leader (me) to start rolling first. Second issue: even if the AI "falls in" behind the player, they don't seem to do a very good job at avoiding collisions. Again, in the "Death Valley" mission, I roll out to the runway, ahead of my two wingmen, and I momentarily set the brakes as I make some last-minute checks and ask the tower for takeoff clearance. However, as soon as I ask the tower for clearance, here comes my #2 behind me, ripping off parts of my aircraft and bailing out. All that time spent getting the chopper started up and to the runway, only to have the AI run into me. This is something that definitely needs to be worked on.
ericinexile Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 On the ground A/I are murderously stupid as you point out. I find that, once if flight, they do a surprisingly good job of not killing me or each other. One thing that helps is "go combat formation" which forces a kickout formation. Best thing to do is either lift off from the ramp or let them safely taxi ahead. Smokin' Hole My DCS wish list: Su25, Su30, Mi24, AH1, F/A-18C, Afghanistan ...and frankly, the flight sim world should stop at 1995.
Weta43 Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 From a cold start, your AI wingmen won't start moving till you "request taxi to runway" from the tower, or you start rolling... whichever happens first. That said - I often request the taxi to get them rolling, then follow behind where I can keep an eye on them :-) Cheers.
enigma6584 Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 From a cold start, your AI wingmen won't start moving till you "request taxi to runway" from the tower, or you start rolling... whichever happens first. That said - I often request the taxi to get them rolling, then follow behind where I can keep an eye on them :-) That is what I do as well. But I must say that I don't think I've ever had a wingman from my flight run into me on the taxiway. They do stop when I stop on taxiway and keep their distance. The problem arises only when I enter the runway and then I must move quickly or they will crash into me.
fox_111 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I had several collisions with wingmens... I rarely taxi with them close now. And combat formation is the new standard formation for me. I got a screenshot of my 3 wingmen piling on me in midflight when I'm going straight. That how I noticed how the collision model work.. it's pretty acurate.
Martillo1 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I was rammed by my wingman in the runway (good title for a song). Vista, Suerte y al Toro! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
CooperHawkes Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 oh yeah, plz do something about the ai on airfields. today i flew the mission "on the other side" from the deployment campaign. and everybody who already flew this mission knows: its a frakking long one. the mission itself went fine, lost no wingman, the enemy didnt even fire one shot at us. i landed on the airfield, chose the parking spot at the end of the field, did the shutdown procedure and then (cause its part of my routine) switched to external view and had a last look at my helicopter. just in time to see wingman no. 2 as he tries to take the same parking spot as i did. boom, there ya go. minus two ka-50s. take me out to the black, tell 'em i ain't coming back, i don't care, i'm still free, you can't take the sky from me. ...still waiting for the day when the military recruits their dronepilots out of a group of flightsimgamers...
joey45 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 take off and land last. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
