How to ensure no mods before reporting bug?

I think I have a significant bug to report with the CBU-105 and JSOW when released from the F-16.  I know that ED would like us to have all mods removed to ensure it's a problem with the vanilla game and not a mod conflict.  I think i've removed all mods and still can reproduce the problem, but is there any log file I can check to ensure I haven't missed anything?

Right now, I've cleared everything from my my base game Mods folder, leaving only Tacview.

Thanks!

There is a log file in the saved games directory that shows what has been loaded.

But generally speaking, if you remove the mods folder in the saved games directory and run a repair, that should make sure that there are no mods present.

Cool, thanks for the quick reply.  I reviewed the DCS.log (which I think is the file you're referring to) and don't see any other mods being loaded besides TacView.  I've run the Repair, so should be all good there.  Do you know if ED requires us to remove TacView as well before submitting any bugs?

There are many User Mods that don't go into /Saved Games/ but go into the DCS program folder itself. I prefer the hassle of using a Mod Manager, in the long run it is easier than manually managing mods:

Ah, I've heard of OVGME but never used it.  I'll check it out.  I've avoided any mods that affect the core DCS game directories, since I didn't want to be going through there trying to extract out files when deinstalling.  OVGME is probably the better way to go.

For bug replication and reporting there's no need to uninstall any mods at all - to have a mod-free version to test on.

Instead you can simply:

  1. Rename the DCS folder in the saved games directory to DCS.OLD

  2. Launch DCS. (It will create a new vanilla configuration of DCS with no mods installed).

  3. Optional: Close DCS, and then copy the config\input directory from DCS.OLD to the new DCS folder so there's no rebinding of controls required.

  4. Re-RUN DCS and replicate the problem.

  5. Optional: Once done - close DCS - delete the DCS directory and rename DCS.OLD back to DCS to restore your previous setting.

This makes it dead simple to have a clean setup of DCS with no mods, etc. It also helps with narrowing down the issue, because if the bug is caused by a bad configuration setting / mod / corrupt file or anything else that can exist in the config directory - it narrows this down almost immediately and allows you to re-setup DCS until you find the issue yourself.

By having the configuration in the saved games directory (and not a bunch of windows registries all over the place) - ED really has made multiple configs, and debugging easy in this regards.

Dangerzone - that's great.  Thanks for that approach.  Much easier than backing out all the mods and trying to ensure a clean installation.  Will definitely use for the future.  I'm about to submit the bug report on this one.

Thats why you run a repair, that will remove any mod you installed in the DCS game directory itself.

OvGME does that when you disable a mod - it reverts back to the original file it tucked away for safe keeping when you enabled the mod. No need for a repair unless you have manually removed/altered a file yourself.
