I thought that the streets and roads were based on OSM database. Or maybe they had it over simplified for performance 🤨

10700K / 4090 / 32Go / 34" curved Gigabyte / Reverb G1 / Thrustmaster hardware among other harderware things.

I find your lack of FPS disturbing...

0. Will there be RSBN beacons on the maps?
- Yes, East German airbases are already equipped with RSBN beacons.

This will hopefully be sorted out. Was also looking forward to do some flying in L-39 using the RSBNs for navigation.

Just downloaded and tested today.

Just echo what others are saying and what a great job ugra have done indeed. A really beautiful map and lots of interesting possibilities.

Having spent 5 wonderful years myself based in Germany and flying low level around the landscape it really brought me back. A few noticeable landmarks obviously missing but the general feeling is very good and i was able to use my (aging) memory to navigate around quite nicely through the terrain.

I've been waiting a long time for a CW map and I'm absolutely thrilled with what Ugra Media is presenting to us as Early Access. Simply ‘WOW!’

With the future adjustments, corrections and expansions, the map should set new standards. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to defend the Fulda Gap against Russia/ East Germany or support Team Yankee (Harold Coyle).

A small error has crept in on the current western edge of the map:

The runway of RAF Germany in Guetersloh deviates by 10 degrees. According to the ingame imprint on the runway, as well as the real alignment, the runway should be at 09/27, but in DCS the alignment is at 28/10 which can be seen directly in the mission editor.

The striking landmark of Hamburg, the Speicherstadt will hopefully still come, currently Hamburg has a few too many chimneys of factories 😉

The only thing missing now is official ground vehicles for the respective nations on site. As a local hero, the Bundeswehr in particular needs the Unimog in various versions, as well as other typical Bundeswehr vehicles such as the Wolf, VW-T3, VW-T4, 5t/ 7t/ 10t mil gl Truck, Wiesel 1/2/ San, possibly Ozelot, Leopard 1 variants, Leopard 2 variants.

Hopefully ED will make adjustments so that you don't have to resort to third-party mods

and of course the German BO-105 anti-tank helicopter is missing, as well as a general overhaul of the CH-53.

I am sure that we can look forward to many future expansions!

What is the correct name for the map please to install on our server.

I just tried the command "DCS_updater.exe install GermanyColdWar_terrain" (taking the name from the tech folder) but received an error?

Thank you in advance.

EDIT: FOUND IT IN A FILE ITS-  GERMANYCW_terrain

Visit the Dangerdogz at www.dangerdogz.com. We are a group based on having fun (no command structure, no expectations of attendance, no formal skills required, that is not to say we can not get serious for special events, of which we have many). We play DCS and IL2 GBS. We have two groups one based in North America / Canada and one UK / Europe. Come check us out.

RSBNs don't seem to be working. I tried Damgarten (CH 32 & 33) and Peenemunde (CH 16) in MiG-21 and had no reception. There are no listings in the Kneeboard. Also, Why does the ME channels page show only two RSBNs - SCF at 363MHz with no channel indication and WADAJOM? at 0MHz again with no channel? 0MHz clearly won't work. There are also no way to use ARK (NDB) since you can't input radio frequencies, only the Russian system of sector, numeral, channel in the MiG-21.

I assume that this will all be rectified in the future.

Perhaps I'm just missing something?

Just installed, fired up for the first time and it's awesome. Absolutely beautiful and frame rates are great. WOW! Just WOW!

The 21 doesn’t use the standard dcs core navigation. It needs a proprietary file.

It was never intended to be a part of dcs world.

I’ve changed and adjust the beacons.lua file and works perfect with the L-39, for now the only airframe that uses the Rsbn/Prmg in the dcs core system. The code is available from 2005, before DCs world.

Yes but RSBN in the works in pretty much all other maps. It would be impossible to make a believable Cold War scenario without the 21. Without Nav aids, there can be no IMC and probably night as well.

With the moded file I’ve tested rsbn and prmg are fully functional in the 39 and in the FC3 (prmg).

For the 21, until M3 makes a v2.0 to get ride of all the old code and use the standard DCs core navigation, it’s up to M3 to create the file for the 21.

That's unfortunate. Thanks for the info. Hopefully M3 will come up with a solution but...

Still, why does it work in all other maps? Did M3 create a file for each one?

Yes. They created a file for each map. Rsbn and ark operation in the 21 is a leftover from lomac 1.0 waypoints

So there's still hope then.

First of all, the map looks great.(love the colors)🥰

I'm about to do something typically German now: "complaining" and pointing things out😅

I only flew briefly over my hometown and didn't recognize anything :-(.

The choice of buildings is well done, but the streets are completely different or ANY landmarks are missing. But hey, these maps are only meant to give an impression of what it looks like there...

Some things stood out. There are these water towers and small, round, pointy towers everywhere . haven't seen anything like them anywhere in Germany.

I've only seen maybe three of these 1950s-VW buses in real life. (i was born there in the 70´s) on this map they park and drive everywhere. (Volkswagen is only a few kilometers from where I live.) Use T2 or better T3 models. They would fit perfectly with the other cars like that "123 Mercedes" and "3er BMWs". they were/are everywhere. ambulace, police, private owners, fire department, any company drove those.

Btw - there's something else (that isn't Ugra's fault). The cars are so tiny. and streets too narrow.

80% of the  german powelines are underground. only the large Elelectric pilons are ok.

Reminds me of the Friedberger Warte in Frankfurt aM.  That was the only one that I ever remember seeing in the five years I lived in Hesse.

Edited to add:  I guess there are four of these in Frankfurt....Friedberger, Bockenheimer, Gallus and Sachsenhauser.  Didn't ever see the other three, but I used to drive from Friedberg to Frankfurt and drove right by the Friedberger....and then 97th General was near it, as well.

A fantastic map with incredible performance!

So far, I’ve mostly flown in the northern region, and I noticed that in Hamburg, the Köhlbrand Bridge and the Landungsbrücken are unfortunately missing in the harbor area.

The Köhlbrand Bridge in particular is a very important landmark of Hamburg, which was opened in 1974. It would be great if it could be added to the map as well.

Hello,
This map is truly exceptional, both for its beauty and its detail.
However, I flew over Berlin and didn't find the (famous) wall, which, of course, no longer exists today, and that's just as well.
Is it there and I just didn't see it, or was it deliberately left there?
Have a good flight, everyone.:pilotfly:

Its very much there (including 'death strip', access roads etc).  If you're looking for an easy reference point to pick it up then fly to the Bundestag/Brandenburg Gate (which sit either side of it). Or fly east from Tempelhof and you'll hit it a little bit short of the river.

I am surpised to miss Bonn as the german capital during cold war on the map. I suppose this would be a primary target for Warshaw Pact forces during cold war.

I'm quite confused by the airfield/heliport choices:

1. There's a truckload of gliderports that serve no purpose unless we're getting gliders or Piper Cub modules.
2. Most of the heliports (non medical) on the FRG side are located where no such indication of a heliport or airfield existing is on the aeronautical chart.
3. A few military fields are depicted as civil glider ports: E.g. Waren should have been a forward base for Hinds.

The aeronautical charts used by the A-10 and Gazelle at least are modern RL based and dont reflect the state of the map.

I'm refering to the aeronatical chart on the mission editor/planner/F10 map.
