AvgWhiteGuy Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Haven't flown since early October when my monitor took a dump on me. Replaced with 3440x1440 (XiaoMi)Redmi G34WQ running off my now ancient NVidia GeForce GTX1070. Updated DCS the other night and it's unplayable with constant stuttering, freezing almost every second, and that is at Low Graphics settings. Can't even pan around cockpit while parked cold on tarmac....and that's with NO USB peripherals attached (TrackIR, Warthog HOTAS, etc). I think this machine has seen it's better days. Everything ran fine just prior to monitor dump so I'm wondering if & how I can easily rollback to an earlier version and try that out before I start shopping for a whole new machine. If this sounds feasible can someone direct me to any instructions on rolling back to ??? version era about Sept-Oct '24? Appreciate the help while I sort out a new purchase...need to fly as I'm sure you can understand. Rudel_chw Posted January 30 Posted January 30 30 minutes ago, AvgWhiteGuy said: Everything ran fine just prior to monitor dump if you upgraded from a 1080p display to a 1440 one, then your gpu has to move around 5 million pixels instead of 2 million, a performance hit is unavoidable. Give it a try: tell windows to use your old resolution: 1920 x 1080 and re-test dcs 1 For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
Hiob Posted January 30 Posted January 30 What he said. I think DCS is slowly outgrowing your hardware specs, which probably was manageable with low settings - but with your resolution upgrade you probably gave it the death blow. You can still use lower rendering resolution in DCS than your native hardware's. 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
AvgWhiteGuy Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 (edited) Appreciate the ideas guys, I switched back to a 1920 x 1080 res; no joy, still unplayable. GPU was bouncing at 92 to 100% while CPU racing as well on just loading a Free Flight - A-10C II above Caucasus at the lowest DCS graphic settings. I guess time to shop around for something new...quick question on that. Not sure where you guys are but I'm looking at about ¥30,000 for a mid-level rig here in Shanghai, that +/-$4,200USD. Overall, does that sound like a reasonable comparison to your locally sourced, mid-level machine? Can anybody send me some relative specs for a new machine...nothing too detailed...just a good solid gaming rig...I only fly DCS. Again, appreciate your help, hopefully back in the air soon, Edited January 30 by AvgWhiteGuy clarity Asus B85 Pro Gamer - 32GB - Intel® Core i5-4460 CPU - SanDisk SDSSDXPS480G -Windows 10 Pro 64-bit - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 TrackIR5 - TM Warthog HOTAS Stick & Throttle - TM Cougar MFCDs - TM TPR Rudder Pedals - Razer Orbweaver - SoundBlasterX G5 DAC
Aapje Posted January 30 Posted January 30 @Panzerlang lives in Japan, so he is probably your best bet when it comes to advice on your local PC market. But your price indication seems very high. Here I specced a high-end system without GPU for $1400: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Fdpdxg Even with local taxes and a $1000 4080/5080, I'm still a long way off from $4200. And if you just want to run this game on a flat screen at 1440p, then the system I specced is overkill and so is a 4080/5080, and you can save a decent chunk of cash by going for a cheaper CPU and GPU (both of which are upgradable, and if you pick a smart moment to do so, you can probably gain a large boost in the future for a relatively low price).
DCoffey Posted January 30 Posted January 30 at your specs a 3060ti will be a big improvement for less than $300
AvgWhiteGuy Posted January 31 Author Posted January 31 I guess I'll wait until the Chinese New Year holiday is over next week and source again. Wish I could source from home (US) but difficult right now. It's amazing to me that 95%+ of the stuff is made right here but they screw the local consumer on PC parts and systems. Current machine specs below....don't laugh, it's served it purpose Any opinions, comments, suggestions on rolling it back for the time being?
