It feels weird that the F-16 has 80nm range with GMT. Even though the F-18 & F-15 with more powerfull Radars just get 40 Max.

I dont know if this slipped through or the 16 just got an superb Radar.

Are you able to detect targets at that range though? Just because you can set the scale that far doesn't mean that you can see anything that far away. I haven't used GMT much at all so I don't know it's effective range.

Which settings do you use?

the F15E can do more than 40nm and up to +80nm the resolution is still quite good.
but the F18 seems to be limited to 40nm in DCS with the EXP modes.

Yes, and due to the fidelity of those Radars, in an instant. (When scanning for gmt not mapping).

This goes for using HRM mapping oder RBM. But Not for searching Ground Moving Targets! (Edit: Ackshually 🤓 the GMT range of the F15 is 32nm.)

I am exclusively talking about detecting moving targets!

Ouh okay that's interesting.😄

Is our avionics tape supposed to have 80nm selectable at all in GMT? Documents for an older Block 50/52 lists max display range 40, and specifically says that 80, DBS1, and DBS2 are not available in GMT.

I haven't experienced this instantanous finding of targets in the F-16. It is fast, yes, but it still takes a complete radar sweep before a blip appears. However it's much easier than working with the Mudhen's radar, as the Mudhen requires some fidding with the antenna elevation to select the band of ground you want to search. The Viper casts a very wide net that reduces pilot workload. No idea if or how realistic that is.
