The ability to walkaround the plane, generally the ability to get in/out, like in another simulator about civilian aircraft, something like Heatblur is planning in F-4

Meantime to overcome the lack of proper implemented walkaround you can use Object Free Camera view and WASD keys to mimic walk outside the airframe. I use PgUp and PgDown to slower/fast the view so it can looks more like walking. The default keys for slow/fast i can´t recall right now but you can search on DCS control options in the key biddings tab for "Zoom out slow" and "Zoom in slow". I always do my walkaround before flight using the Object Free Camera, it´s awesome in VR and in 2D too.

About carrier ops: "The younger pilots are still quite capable of holding their heads forward against the forces. The older ones have been doing this too long and know better; sore necks make for poor sleep.'

I wonder how it will look in Phantom, but that's one of the reasons I bought it, one of many reasons, but something like that adds incredible immersion to the simulator. The creators of this simulator about civilian aircraft did a small thing, but a big one.

I totally agree, but if ED starts making this feature for all aircraft, we'll be waiting 10 years for it, and we need it now. Let them make it for the modules they release, and somewhere down the road if the older module code allows it they'll add it.

Depends on how detailed you want it. If you demand full pilot animation from the ground up the ladder and into the cockpit - that's a bit diffent for all aircraft and can take some time and resorces. I wouldn't bet on it. If you just want to get in/out instantly and walkaround there's nothing to develop - it's all in DCS code already (taking control of the vehicle, camera/view movement and pilot walking animation).

I mean something like in MSFS, actually you could skip the animation of getting in and out, there was even a working mod once, and it was quite a few years ago.

We'll see how Heatblur does it, it could be interesting.

Be specific. You want the cool icons on the important parts? The interaction like removing the RBFs or touching elevators? Some of it is not even job of the pilot but the ground crew's.

I’ve been wanting animated ground crew since I got into DCS, never mind a better animated ‘me’ pilot.

We’ve almost got some on the carrier but they’re iffy smffy’s at times. 

Would be good to be able to hop out of a truck and do the pre-flight check of our aircraft. Would probably be short lived and some would skip it to get flying but it’d be good to have a bit of life in the place. Our ground crews are ghostly whisperings from nowhere “copy”. I’d love to see some proper ground crews. Someone to actually “run the starter” on the Mossie would be nice. Black Lab to greet me back for bonus points 🙂.

At the very beginning, even just getting in and out, and walking around would be good, but eventually, yes, checking components which ones pilot chcecks, etc. It's incredible immersion boost for sim. If You land apache, and press ctr+e, You already got what we need at the very begining, but You can't get in back into heli, and this is count as ejection.
