element1108 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 A little featurette describing hardcore mode for Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising. Looks like the developments really coming along. !
joey45 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Looking good. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Shaman Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 They have convinced me! Saving my money for OPF2, not for broken ARMA2 (I was supposed to get ARMA2 from local shop tommorow, LOL) Spotted: Look how CQC gameplay is smooth. Noticed the warm blood on IR imaging, you can clearly see for a split second it was a messy headshot. Boulund Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Looking very good I'm really enticed by this. I bet this is going to be better than ArmA2 ... Amazed how you can produce something so buggy and claim "10 years of improvements to the engine" as a selling point. deadsmell Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I guess im the only the one thats not impressed. Ill still end up getting it, im just very skeptical on how "good" its actually going to be. If you notice for example in that video, when they go into to clear that little house or whatever it is, the door opens, and the player starts walking through, then he has to look over into the right corner, where he shoots a guy that is for some reason just standing there not shooting the player, then he turns 180 back to the left and shoots another opfor that for some reason never bothered to shoot at the player, even though he had him from behind. It looks like the AI just pretty much stands there and lets you shoot them. They claim they have super AI, but you can tell in the vids its BS. No freelook, no lean, no fov. And for the record, it's obvious hardcore mode, as they themselves stated, wasnt even implemented until community feedback from E3, and all it is, is no HUD, so i dont really see how thats such a huge thing. anyway whatever, well see. I would like nothing more than to see COD die, but I just dont know if dragon rising really has the goods. And finally, In my opinion that was still a pretty sorry demonstration. They spent more time showing off the command radial menu, which everyone is already aware of, and guys standing around in sweaters, rather than show a real good fight, which ive still yet to see them show off. All theyve shown is teasers, and im starting to think its cuz theres nothing else to show. Dont let the smell get to ya...............

element1108 Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 I don't know if it's mainly about impressing as much as showing a few features of the upcoming game. No game video can truely give a player a sense of the actual gameplay, games are meant to be played not watched. These featurettes are broadcast friendly and meant to appeal to a wide audience from new comers to the dedicated few. You get the picture and they outline the difference between hardcore mode and easier modes, there was a LOT of uproar from the community after E3 that no "hardcore" mode was shown ... because maps and radars and aides are found. Anyway I don't want to defend cause you make a good point and i'm not trying to convince you, I'm just saying it's very difficult to satisfy player credentials in a 3 min video. I would personally rather have them perfect the game than waste time doing up video's. I'll just wait for the demo to see how the gameplay feels/sounds/interacts. I have to say I'm very interested in the development so far. I'm a big fan of these type of games and will be nice to have something similar yet different to play next to ARMA 2. At least until HOG drops then that trumps everything ;)
RedTiger Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Looks interesting to me, this is the first time I've seen it. I never played the original, but it looks like its somewhere on the "dirt realism" scale between something like CoD and ARMA, which is nice -- correct me if I'm wrong, here. Single player looks...well...playable! I found the original ARMA's AI to be like herding a bunch of retarded lemmings. They might as well have just had two menu options; multiplayer, and underneath that, multiplayer. ARMA was obviously meant to be played with human beings at least coop, friendly AI was pointless. I'm still waiting for someone to put TrackIR in a FPS that isn't ARMA. I don't think that will ever happen as long as the FPS is marketed to a wide player base. TrackIR isn't a widely used peripheral and could possible give a large advantage to those who use it in multiplayer. As usual, the desire for multiplayer balance messes up the fun. :P
element1108 Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 (edited) http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=371670 10 min video (2 parts) of a mission, gives you a better idea of how the gameplay works outside 20 frame edits. two links to special ops mission footage Edited August 12, 2009 by element1108
-fox- Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Thanks for the links. Looking better and better to me but I gotta add that I was not a huge fan of the original OFP and ARMA and more into semi-tactical FPSs like BF2.
Perry Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 The game has interesting features like FLIR. The combats look much more arcade than ArmA 2 though, which is an infantry sim.
connos Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 The AI is horrible so far from all the videos i saw. The graphics thou looks fantastic and well optimize. For me Arma 2 and Stalker games took the AI think to the next level. For sure their not perfect but at least the try to do something. Shaman Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 A bit OT, but still about AI infantry in FPS games. Remember Crysis? Look at this AI mod - some guy made a video about him scripting new AI for the game: you can clearly see the improvement since he compares how it was BEFORE AND how it is AFTER the mod. I'm really eager to try this one when I get the time. 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer

RedTiger Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Will there be EVER realistic muzzle flashes in "REALISTIC" games? I think realistic muzzle flashes are probably the one thing that I'd be hesitant to include in even a realistic infantry sim. Its just one of those things that doesn't translate so well to an imperfect medium like software. Realistic muzzle flashes would be more meaningful than these, but I could imagine it just being something that sounds good on paper but just ends up being irritating or clumsy in a game. They remind me a lot of G force and GLOC models in sims in that regard, only worse because of how often they happen.

Okay okay.. agree, otherwise you wouldn't be able to go 1 vs 10000 enemies... However you haven't commented on the improvements to AI made by this mod maker. 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
connos Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 The improvement in the mod is indeed amazing. It make the game more realistic but i think the improvement in AI that I am looking for is not only in combat scenarios. Crysis is only combat and in my opinion could be done way better but all the processing power went on graphics. Best combat AI i saw so far is in Arma 2 and Stalker. Its simple, they take cover and aggressively shot at you until you are gone but AI also do some more complex stuff. About Stalker follow this link and you will understand what i am trying to say.http://aigamedev.com/open/interviews/stalker-alife/ This guy for me its a genius. From the videos I saw about the new Stalker that is coming soon the AI is taken to the next level for both monsters and humans. Be realistic i meant no muzzle flash or at least just occasionally muzzle flash on small calibre weapons. Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en

Ah...I thought you were talking about it ruining the eye's adjustment to the dark...ruining your "night vision". Nevermind, I agree with you. :D
