VR Grease Pencil

I can show the grease pencil bar in VR, but I haven’t been able to expand it to write.  Anyone know the trick to getting this to work in VR ?

After closing canopy I click the show grease pencil.  I see a small black box on right side of canopy close to where I click.

i see a bar with and arrow on the left at the top of my view.  I can’t interact with the bar or the black box.  Ie I can’t click on the arrow, etc .  I tried moving the mouse in that area.

I don’t have this area to draw in, it seems like it’s collapsed ?

When in VR the input window where you can write appears at the front of your view where the jester wheel normally appears.

It’s a bit inconvenient but it’s apparently a limitation of the DCS engine.

Thats correct. Any HB UI can in VR only be shown around the HUD area.

The collapsed window can be opened and dragged around using the mouse (not VR hands)

Is that the window with the drawing tools in it?

The window that includes the drawing area and the options-box.
It has a blackish titlebar and an arrow to collapse/expand it.

In VR that window opens around the HUD area and if you click with your mouse on the arrow u can expand/collapse it. And if you click the titlebar you can drag it around. In non-VR it opens on the center of the screen and moves with your camera, like an overlay. The mouse controls are the same though.



The results are then rendered on the canopy, as if it would be a screen.

I cannot select or drag any of the tools around with my mouse 

ie. The black box when I try to select is the same place that toggles the pencil on and off.

the bar at the top , I cannot interact with it

Could you please send a screenshot how it looks for you ingame?

Make sure you are looking at the window around the HUD area, not the canopy area.

I can try, I see the bar at the top of the hud.  I can’t write below it or expand it or click on it .  I see a large yellow crosshair

Also note that there is kind of two different mouse pointers in VR in DCS. One is in the "depth* of the cockpit (yellow cross) and the other in the depth of UI layer (white dot). They can be in somewhat different place depending on where you are looking in the cockpit. IIRC it is the white dot that interacts with the grease pencil window, since it is part of the UI rather than the cockpit.

Yeah the yellow crosshair is the wrong one. Its the white one you want. Unfortunately DCS hides the white crosshair in VR unless you are over something clickable, so its way too easy to "lose" the cursor... Infuriatingly poor design but its a DCS problem.

I tried to get help with this too, but despite hints and tips I could not get it to work.  I gave up in the end.  Shame, as I thought it would be a great feature.

Correct, I only see the yellow cursor when I enter into the grease pencil mode, I couldn’t find the white dot.  I moved my mouse around and couldn’t see it

Its very hard to find. The idiotic thing is it only shows up when its hovering over the clickable part of the UI, which is very small when the Grease Pencil window is closed. Its bad enough with the Radio menu but this is worse.
