I got curious about the British Pacific Fleet and the Corsair's escapades there and, though my sources are mainly modeling forums, I've read that the BPF Corsairs were set up to use both American and British bombs. It would be cool if we could get the British bomb capability.

There are several British bombs added by ED years ago to WW2, however, because M3 produced a US Navy-specific version. It's important to look at whether that version was used on British aircraft carriers and the modifications and modifications made to the Corsairs to adapt them to British armament. Let's not even talk about aircraft carrier doctrine.

It is also important to consider whether there were specific naval bombs / rockets in the FAA that have not been implemented in DCS World, a question that ED would have to address.

By this stage of the war,, all Aamerican aircraft could carry British bombs and vice versa.

It would just be a case of adding them to the list, I guess..

M3 made two: US F4U-1D and British MkIV (clipped wings). They are separate aircraft in the mission editor.

Victoria Cross was awarded to a Canadian pilot flying a MkIV off of the HMS Formidable, who was killed while bombing a Japanese vessel in 1945. As part of these strikes HMS Victorious was also involved. I occasionally see references to "500lb" and "1000lb" bomb in squadron diaries but no official designations. We can infer that they probably did use US ordnance but we can't infer that they did not use British ordnance as well. Particularly considering photographic evidence of other BPF carrier aircraft loaded with British GP bombs and rockets rather than US bombs and HVAR.

1. We have a British MkIV represented, in British Pacific Fleet colors, specifically the same squadron(s)  involved in the above mentioned strike mission in 1945.
2. MkIV, launched from British carriers, used bombs in the Pacific in 1945.

Ergo "Navy-specific" and "aircraft carrier doctrine" are irrelevant.

British bombs are planned already, however we are not sure when they'll be added.

We have to look through each of ED's bomb models, and check for the 14 inch spaced lugs.

I doubt their rockets will fit though, as the mounting lugs need adjusting.

The British 250 and 500 lb MC MkII should fit the bill, but I don't think there is a 1000lb MC in stock

MC is equivalent to American GP.

By the Spitfire we have:

  • 250 lb Mk.1 GP Bomb
  • 500 lb Mk.1 GP Bomb

By the Mosquite we have:

  • RP-3 25 lb AP Mk.1 Rocket
  • RP-3 60 lb F No1 Mk.1 Rocket
  • RP-3 60 lb SAP No1 Mk.1 Rocket
  • 250 lb GP Mk.IV Bomb
  • 250 lb GP Mk.V Bomb
  • 250 lb MC Mk.I Bomb
  • 250 lb MC Mk.II Bomb
  • 250 S.A.P bomb
  • 500 lb GP Mk.IV Bomb
  • 500 lb GP Mk.V Bomb
  • 500 lb GP Short Tail Bomb
  • 500 lb MC Mk.II Bomb
  • 500 lb MC Short Tail Bomb
  • 500 lb S.A.P. Bomb

By my data Corsair on the FAA carry 500 and 1000 Lb bombs, 8 5 in HVAR and 154 USG, but ED has not add any british 1000 lb bombs.

  • GB/UK 500lb GP Mks IV, V, VI
  • GB/UK 500lb MC Mks I, II
  • GB/UK 500lb MC Mks III, V
  • GB/UK 500lb MC MkIV
  • GB/UK 500lb MC Mks VI-XII
  • GB/UK 500lb SAP Mks IIC, IIIC, V

Thanks guys...just keep in mind, It's not the bomb types I'm looking into.  It's whether or not they have the 14-inch spaced lugs welded on the opposite side of the single lug.

We already know 250 and 500 MCs were used, but if ED didn't model the required lugs on their bombs, we can't use them.

Yes they are 3 lug, 2 American, 1 British and should fit.
