DanKurt Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I have BS (uk disc vr) on my main PC and would like to install it on my new laptop for when I am working away from home. Question is will this loose me an activation ( I will not be playing on line with the laptop). If so is there away around loosing an activation (i think its a bit unfair to loose an activation just because I want to install it on a second computer).
press Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 (edited) I have it installed on my Acer 5920G lappie. It has a Intel Core 2 Duo at 1.8GHz, 2Gb of RAM, GForce 8600M GT and WinVista Home Premium. It works like a charm. Edited August 13, 2009 by press
DanKurt Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 No I am sure it will work fine its just that I am worried about loosing an activation from my DVD. I would like to know if I will loose an activation because I am installing it on a second PC and if so is there a way to avoid this?
press Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Maybe I'm wrong, but I knew that only the download version is restricted with a number of activations. The DVD version can be installed on as many machines you like. But, as I said, I may be wrong. I have the download version.

159th_Viper Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I would like to know if I will loose an activation because I am installing it on a second PC and if so is there a way to avoid this? I had the Russian version installed on 2 drives on one Computer and it cost an extra activation - so yeah, you will lose one and no way to avoid it :) Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Feuerfalke Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Download and DVD version rely on the same copy-protection-methods. You have to activate both online and both have limited activations. Yes, basically you can install it on 2 PCs, but IIRC the EULA that comes with the game regulates, that you are only allowed to run one instance of the game at a time. In other words: You are not allowed to install the game on 2 PCs and run both installations at the same time. This is AFAIK, but you may check out the "payment and activation"-Forum. sweinhart3 Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I was under the impression that the whole reason you have 7 activations is so that you can put the installation onto more than 1 pc if you have need to. I personally have never been able to get a deactivation to work tho I have tried several times, but the idea is that you can install it onto as many as (7 theoretically) and remove the software to gain an activation back. Only one instance of the game can be run online at any 1 given time, but for people that run multiple machines to spread video across several monitors, DCS is supposed to be able to sink up. Dunno if its capable of this yet but I thought I read that somewhere. Reality is, at least for me, my activations get eaten up because of installations that dont go right or having to reinstall an OS. andyfoot Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 As I understand it, you can install on more than one PC/Laptop, each will use an activation, but you are only allowed to run one install at a time. So you can't install on several PC's and have a multiplayer game with your family/buddies. Myself, I have it installed on a laptop as I spend a great deal of time away, and I also have it installed on my wife's PC, which is more powerful, and I only play on one at a time.
Tez Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 andyfoot does everything right. It isn't allowed to use one copy simultaneously from several computers (two or more). [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] =653=Tez
EtherealN Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 This may be a bit persnickety, but does anyone read the EULA? End User License Agreement. You explicitly agree to it when you install, and the answers to these questions are in there. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
sweinhart3 Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 LMAO. Who reads that garbage??? Same old stuff blah blah blah. Dont pirate copies. Every customer has to have their own purchased copy. Intel i7 990X, 6GB DDR3, Nvidia GTX 470 x2 SLI, Win 7 x64 http://picasaweb.google.com/sweinhart
joker62 Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 andyfoot does everything right. It isn't allowed to use one copy simultaneously from several computers (two or more). I've purchased two copies of DCS BS, ENGlish version and RUssian version too. I've installed and registered ENG version. Can I install ON THE SAME PC RUssian version too, activate it, and fly, one time ENG v., and another time RU v.? Are there some incompatibilities? Thanks in advance. best regards. antonio
EtherealN Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 (edited) LMAO. Who reads that garbage??? Same old stuff blah blah blah. Dont pirate copies. Every customer has to have their own purchased copy. "LMAO" and "garbage", eh? It's a binding legal agreement, and you have entered into it without ever reading it. That's a case of "LMAO" in my opinion, because for all you know you might have agreed to just about anything at all. ...and then you post here, in this thread, being not entirely factually correct (it's 8 activations, not 7, for one thing). You say stuff like: "only one instance of the game can be run online at any 1 given time" which in itself is true, since you are only allowed to run one instance on the same license at any one time - irrespective of singleplay or not. If you do, then you are violating a legal agreement that you have effectively signed under without ever reading. That's not "same old stuff" since apparently you didn't know what was in there. When you purchase a car, do you skip reading the purchase contract because it's always the "same old stuff" and just garbage?` Incidentally, the same goes for your assumptions about running on several computers to spread the screen. Reading the EULA would have caused you to know that no, that is not something you have legal right to do (in fact, you have expressly stated that you will not do so). 1: Limited use licence: "[...]licence to install and use one copy of the Program and the Documentation[...]on the terms of this Licence.[...]You may not network the Program or otherwise install it or use it on more than one computer at a time, except if expressly authorized otherwise in the Documentation." 3.1: Licence conditions "[...]you shall not: (a) use the Program[...] on more than one computer, computer terminal, or workstation at the same time" Edited August 26, 2009 by EtherealN [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

Thanks in advance. best regards. antonio You have two licenses. Treat them as separate entities. Install them on the same machine, several machines, and run them simultaneously all you want. But don't run the same license simultaneously on two machines. That's specifically what having multiple licenses is good for. ;) Whether there's incompatibilities, depends a bit on your OS and stuff I'd expect, since patching and such might be funny if there's windows registry conflicts, but it should be fine. (It's at least fine as far as the licencing goes, but why would you want to have two installs of the same game on the same computer?) vortex360 Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Reality is, at least for me, my activations get eaten up because of installations that dont go right or having to reinstall an OS. I recover Windows 7 Retail fully activated, Windows XP and the Black Shark game without using an activation in about 30 minutes with a drive image backup. And the entire 26 gigs fit on 2 regular DVDs.
