Baldrick33 Posted Monday at 11:18 AM Posted Monday at 11:18 AM (edited) I recently tried a Quest 3 as a potential replacement for the trusty G2. Although the cockpit was clearer I found the overall image quality outside worse plus I couldn’t get the same level of smoothness be it wired or with virtual desktop even with a dedicated wired access point after several weeks of tweaking. So I have returned to the G2. VR can be subjective, I know others opinions will differ but I am very happy the Oasis driver extends the life of my preferred headset. All working fine here with the Oasis driver and I have successfully upgraded to 24H2 without issues so it also feels good to be on the latest Windows. Again maybe against the flow I have always found using SteamVR as the OpenXR runtime smoother, so using SteamVR for the Oasis driver is a benefit for me . Cab Posted Tuesday at 09:19 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:19 PM (edited) Well, I had it working this morning before I left for work but turning it on now, I get a message that SteamVR failed. Specifically, "Oh no! SteamVR has encountered an unexpected problem." Anyone have any suggestions? Update: It did eventually start, and I successfully flew on a server. However, after closing DCS and SteamVR, I am now getting a SteamVR error regarding my GPU have trouble communicating with the HMD. I had this during setup, but a fresh install of Steam seemed to fix it. I tried all the available Displayports with no change. Edited Tuesday at 09:59 PM by Cab
The_Nephilim Posted yesterday at 01:03 AM Posted yesterday at 01:03 AM Well my experience has been great. I am having better Frametimes in DCS compared to what it was before.. The apache I flew 2 MP Missions and they both were flawless no issues at all.. For what I paid for it I am not going to complain at all. Mbucchia is a legend in my mind.. FYI completely uninstalling then reinstalling all Steam software and the Oasis driver got everything working again. I just had a great time in the Contention Cold War server with no issues. Thanks again @mbucchia Edited yesterday at 10:03 AM by Cab 1

Received this error again this morning trying to turn on VR for the first time after PC start: After doing some hardware troubleshooting and reinstalling the Oasis driver with no effect, I uninstalled (again) all Steam software using the Revo Uninstaller, then reinstalled Steam and Oasis. To my relief, SteamVR worked again and DCS started in VR with no issues.
Thorns Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Waiting on a Bluetooth Dongle from Amazon as the G2 controllers won't pair in Windows 11...does Microsoft suck? Ask anyone that has a G2...LOL! Lots of people will be able to play in VR again thanks to Mbucchia!
shazam253 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I transition to win 11 24h2 via to learn neither my headset (reverb G2) nor rudder paddles (CH/Saitek) are working. The later became usable again after disabling core isolation... Sorry for sidetracking, bottom line, I converted to Steam VR with the OASIS driver and also found improved average FPS. Since tweaked my setup to have a 20-30% overhead, I maintain my 90 FPS even in more demanding situations as the overhead then just goes down to zero. As for the sharpness, I've some distrust in SteamVR reporting it correctly. After also perceivedly seeing a but more blurryness, I set the resolution from 100 to 150% in SteamVR, which didn't have a noticable performance impact, but also little impact on picture sharpness, but I feel risky got me back to WMR standards. After feeling the improved smoothness from the OASIS/SteamVR combo, I felt daring and increased demand by setting FXAA and MSAA from 2/2 to 16/4. The averaged FPS were maintained, but in the 'extreme' situations, the stutter was more felt than with WMR. => I feel that it has been tweaked for higher FPS and reactivity, but at the price of you run out of overhead, the stutters are more noticable. Thus,I would recommend to choose your settings with enough headroom for your targeted FPS, like DCS to that target, and you'll enjoy more smoothness! Please take everything with a grain of salt, I transition from Windows 11 23h2 to 24h2, where I found a loss of 20% of performance (repeatedly) for the regular 3Dmark Timespy benchmark, but had slightly better performance in the extreme version of it. So thanks @mbucchia for your devotion to VR, from OpenXR tools to OASIS driver to going against Meta for locking everyone else out!
Thorns Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Slight problem need help with…Installed the Oasis driver for my old G2. IL-2 runs fine no problems on max settings and 150 res in SteamVR, and runs smooth (thanks Matthieu!). So I tried DCS and it loads ok, but if you try to select multiplayer, quick flight, or mission files, it starts with the intro pic of an airplane and then just gives a little pic that says “Waiting”, and won’t start the action? Tried lower res in SteamVR and in DCS, and still does the Waiting little box and that’s it…??? Help!
