akarsdcs Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Repaint of the F-86 Cockpit This model, which was very well made in its time, is already quite old, and I believe it deserves a modernization. I have carried out the repaint based on the black cockpit scheme, as I had complete photographic references of this version and, in this way, it also allows the option of flying both variants. All labels and legends have been recreated according to the available real-world information, while keeping in mind the limitations of integrating them into an already existing model. Repaint of the F-86 Sabre Jet Cockpit What has been achieved: -Application of a black base coat on the cockpit model. -Addition of metal wear effects, scratches, and layers of dust and dirt to enhance realism. -Implementation of roughmet layers, allowing for highlights and reflections that vary depending on the material of each surface. Limitations encountered: -The original model does not include bump maps in its files, which makes it impossible to simulate surface roughness and fine reliefs through the shader. Despite this, every effort has been made to achieve a convincing result. -The instrument lights could not be altered, as they are not texture-dependent but rather determined by the way the models were originally exported. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/es/files/3346544/ 3 5
Saguanay Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Looks good. That would be quite a hot cockpit in the sun. Hope the air works as it should.
Hiob Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Frickin’ Legend! "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
TAIPAN_ Posted Monday at 10:42 AM Posted Monday at 10:42 AM Nice, thanks! Pimax Crystal VR & Simpit User | Ryzen CPU & Nvidia RTX GPU | Some of my mods
Czar Posted Monday at 12:36 PM Posted Monday at 12:36 PM Looks like that's a straight up upgrade! I have downloaded it but haven't played with it yet. Any chance to make it not needing to overwrite the default cockpit skin while being select able on the Sabre's special tab back and forth with the default? Outstanding work.
buceador Posted Monday at 01:30 PM Posted Monday at 01:30 PM (edited) What a labour of love! Can this repaint be applied to the FC version of the sabre? UPDATE: I downloaded the trial version of the Sabre to check out your work, I am familiar with the DCS file structure so I made a backup of the original .zip file and placed your version in the correct folder, in my case F:\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\F-86\Cockpit\Textures\F-86F-35-CPT-TEXTURES.zip (75.1 MB) However when I run it the cockpit remains the same? Any ideas? Edited Monday at 02:58 PM by buceador

I think you aren’t supposed to replace the original files, but put the mod in the savegames folder (subfolder for mod/…/ cockpit) 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"

Hiob Posted Monday at 05:54 PM Posted Monday at 05:54 PM ah, ok…. missed that no idea 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
akarsdcs Posted Monday at 06:18 PM Author Posted Monday at 06:18 PM You are supposed to overwrite the existing textures file. You don’t need to unzip it. The Solution Of The Mod manager Was To Easily Change From One Version To The Other Without having, To backup IT Yourself. Other uses Have reported That It Worked Fine on FC 1

akarsdcs Posted Monday at 08:13 PM Author Posted Monday at 08:13 PM (edited) Do you know how to work on the model viewer? in it, you Can see were your textures are coming From. Pp Edited Monday at 08:14 PM by akarsdcs
akarsdcs Posted Monday at 08:19 PM Author Posted Monday at 08:19 PM With the model viewer, you can open the model of the cockpit inside the F86 folder, and use the tag “textures” to locate which is the source of the textures you’d F 86 is using. They look like the originals. Have you moved the original zip file from DCS out of the dcs root? sometimes DCS will find the textures some where else

Many thanks for suggestions.
buceador Posted yesterday at 11:04 AM Posted yesterday at 11:04 AM (edited) As a test I removed the F:\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\F-86\Cockpit\Textures\F-86F-35-CPT-TEXTURES.zip file leaving the location ( F:\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\F-86\Cockpit\Textures\ ) empty, ie no texture files at all, I ran a mission with the F-86 and the cockpit was the normal (DCS) cockpit so clearly it is getting the texture from somewhere else? All input is gratefully received! Edit: Problem solved! DCS must cache information, creating a new mission with the F-86 the cockpit displays with all textures missing, copying the new black texture mod zip file back into the appropriate directory works as advertised! bephanten Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago skin looks good. but none of the lights on the dashboard are working with this. and the text on attitude indicator ball should have more contrast. ball is grey, text is greyish.
