DCS - Map editor - Loading any map - freez in load

I had a similar problem, but I don't own a MiG-29A. Try renaming the DCS folder in your saved games; that helped me. Then I dragged the aircraft control settings: \Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input

I see this error in that log.

2025-09-17 17:27:53.596 ALERT LUACOMMON (Main): Error: GUI Error: [string "./MissionEditor/modules/me_news.lua"]:146: bad argument #2 to 'date' (number expected, got string)
GUI debug.traceback: stack traceback:
	[C]: ?
	[C]: in function 'date'
	[string "./MissionEditor/modules/me_news.lua"]:146: in function 'showNews'
	[string "./MissionEditor/modules/me_news.lua"]:259: in function 'funCallBack'
	[string "./MissionEditor/modules/me_waitDsbweb.lua"]:90: in function 'updater'
	[string "./Scripts/UpdateManager.lua"]:64: in function <[string "./Scripts/UpdateManager.lua"]:40>

Try running a slow repair of the game. Additionally if this continues then try renaming your Saved Games\DCS.openbeta folder to DCS.old as per the suggestion in the previous comment in case of corruption in anything in the MissionEditor folder related there.

same here, and Im also unable to load a mission or the encyclopedia. The only thing that did work for me was loading the mission editor for the south atlantic map, but then Im unable to view Airplane or Helicopter liveries in the Mission Editor.

Any help appreciated

Ok, i think i found out something here.

If I stay online after launching the sim it works. Everything runs smoothly, but if I go offline the loading of everything stops

Same problem.

From DCS discord: Rename folder Misison Editor in Savegames. Game will create new one. Than finally I can jump to mission.
Also I transfered these files to "new created MissionEd. folder"

Someting is wrong in this folder, that blocked loading to missions and map.
But not everyone has this problem.

Please attach your DCS log file for review, this may be a separate issue in which case you can raise your own post.

Hi,

I can confirm, after deleting the news.lua file, DCS is functional.

Thanks for the quick community hotfix. 🫡

Hello,

I have already solved the problem. I had to delete the old folder (Saved Games\DCS.openbeta) and start DCS again. Fortunately, I had my missions and logbook (where I have 215 hours flown in SP on the MiG 21) backed up.

Thank you all...

Great! I usually recommend renaming the folder instead of deleting it. Backups are great though! 👍🏻

I have the same problem, DCS hangs when I try to access Missions, Training or Mission Editor. Renaming folder DCS\Mission Editor or deleting news.lua did not help. And here is my log file:

dcs.log 40.28 kB · 4 downloads

Your issue is different so may need to raise your own post. This is the error in your log. Maybe check what the DNS is configured on your system, and update it to use 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8. Are you using aa VPN or anything of that nature? Recommend raising your own post.

@sleighzy
OK, maybe I should create a new topic, I decided to post here because I had seen posts from user Dashomat, who seems to have exactly the same problem. If I want to enter Missions, Trainings, etc., I have to be online during loading of DCS. When DCS is loaded, and I disconnect the WIFI, I still have access to Missions, Trainings, Encyclopedia, etc. The problem is when I disconnect the WIFI before loading DCS, In that case everything freezes. I use the Steam version of DCS, I don't know if users of the standalone installation have the same problem in the offline mode. The log I attached Is from the case when I run from Steam Offline.

Yeah Dashomat may have a completely different problem as well, e.g. same problem as you but different problem than the original poster of this thread. They were asked for logs and not supplied them so we don't know if the problem is the same as yours.

The part of your error re: "Could not resolve hostname" could entirely be due to the fact that you've turned your network off. Don't know why you're doing that though. Sounds like an easy solution then 🤷‍♂️

Have you tried turning on the offline mode of the game?

Sometimes I take my laptop and HOTAS with me when I travel. WiFi is not accessible everywhere, and I have to use smartphone as router to have internet access. Before the last update I could start DCS totally offline and everything worked.
I could not switch DCS to offline mode, because it's not accessible in the Steam version. In the Steam version I can play offline only for three days, and after that I get the error "Steam authentication error, no saved authorization found" And if I am away from home, I use the smartphone router to update the Steam authorization for next 3 days.
