londo-cat Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I like the gearshift rubber grommit - very inventive! The collective is a very interesting combo of a plumbing supplies and joystick throttle - once again very inventive!
hannibal Posted August 22, 2009 Author Posted August 22, 2009 now only if i can get it to run smoother... im running 2 monitors vertical span 1680x2100 would have ben nice to use the 7 inch LCD for dedicated Shkval.. but too many monitors = poor performance on Xp x64, 8Gig Ram 2x 74 raptor RAID-0 does anyone know if Win7 allows vertical spanning? Vista did not... find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179

crazysundog Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Great stick Hannibal!! Thats the suncom stick you found, right? Great, simple and looks very professional!
londo-cat Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 its alive... Ah yes... the old Suncom F-15E Talon Joystick (or also known as the Suncom Strike Fighter Series "SFS"), it also came with a throttle too which was kind of ungainly. I bought it about 15 years ago I think, part of a combo pack (Stick and Throttle), back when Windows 95 was NEW! I had always hoped that Suncom would eventually put out a USB Based Joystick, but sadly they went out of business... Recently I had been thinking of buying an old Suncom SFS and gutting it and then using it it in the KA-50 since they share a common shape and with some modification, it could be made to look *more* like the KA-50 stick.
hannibal Posted August 23, 2009 Author Posted August 23, 2009 (edited) i put the guts of CH flight sim yoke..now this puppy is USB. let me tell you something...with tthe mini stick on the grip...slewing the shkval is friggin awesome.. i just hope slewing will be the same in A-10C...the slewing centers back in lock on, and dosent work as well.... for the most part, with it being calibrated in windows, it is a fun stick...not as loose like a fighter stick... great on lock on except for the TDS slewing..as this point, slewing in lock on is done best with the mouse...and skhval is best with a joystick (ministick if you will) on black shark... JG14_Smil Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 make sure your gear switch is working. You flew around with wheels down all evening yesterday. :)
ruprecht Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 does anyone know if Win7 allows vertical spanning? Vista did not... It does not. for reference, I'm running windowed 3x1280x768 on a TH2G, plus a 1024x768 ABRIS/Shkval, on a Q6600 OC to 3.2Ghz and 9800GTX+, 6GB ram on Win7_64. And I get acceptable frames. I'm not sure what hardware you have, but the new patch has helped a lot. Good idea hannibal, I just took a look at the CH Flightstick and yes - looks like it would map over. I'm looking to do the same thing as well - however I want a more realistic KA-50 stick, so I employed a local artist to create the stick in modeling clay. Once it's done, I can then cast it and then pour resin into the mold to create my own KA-50 stick. This will most likely be the *LAST* thing I do on my pit, but I put it on the task list for sure. Your idea of the internals of the CH Flightstick was a good idea though, thanks!
hannibal Posted August 24, 2009 Author Posted August 24, 2009 hold up.. lock on flaiming cliffs.. TDS slewing.. best done with a mouse?? im an idiot, i didnt think to have the mini stick configured as a mouse in CH Control Manager.... have to try it out..when i get home.. MAN i love this modding. i cant wait for the AH-64A apache module, for i plan to build a gunner and pilot stations... find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
hannibal Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 great.. just when i was getting into black shark... im starting to get inspired by the A-10 and planning to setup for it.. unfortunately my current state is for helicopters, so now i am again dsimanteling my heli gear and setting up for a plane..(hoping to complete suncom split throttle mod by week's end.. just waiting for these stupid tactile switches..) i am trying to practice on the A-10A on lock on for this month, just waiting for the release of operation flashpoint 2, and will reinstall my heli gear (AH-6J just looks daymn tasty on codemasters' ego engine) just showing off my array of gear... find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Suncom now thats t!ts right there man! I showed a guy who'd never seen simpits my set up the other day and then proceeded to blow him away with everyone elses simpits. Still wouldnt mind tearing apart a suncom but now with two FFB HOTAS on the market I can probably wait and see how those pan out first. http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
hannibal Posted September 9, 2009 Author Posted September 9, 2009 (edited) let me say something...the talon is a fun joystick... feels good.. not too stiff, not too loose.. unfortunately i shelved it, in favor of the fighterstick, because it resembles the A-10C stick.. 104th_Crunch Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Nice work Hannibal! Some really useful designing.
hannibal Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 thanks.. im glad everything is working now.. modding that suncom throttle was a headache.. but at the end, it was worth it... took me a couple of days to find the right setup.. no thanks to windows 7, but not it runs great... with XP x64, where nvidia nView allows Vertical spanning, gaming on monitors setup up top down a 1680x2100, its freakin awesome.. not like triplehead where if you zoom out in cockpit view, everything freezes... now i can truly start enjoying the A-10A on lockon... find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
