Michael-Fr Posted yesterday at 11:49 AM Posted yesterday at 11:49 AM Hello, Is the RSBN car compatible with RETURN mode? Do I then have to assign two frequencies (IN and OUT) and repeat them on the MIG 29's ADF settings? Do these beacons have to respect spacing limits (at least 10 miles apart, for example)? And finally, is it beneficial to orient them judiciously when placing them on a map (one direction they transmit better than another)? Sincerely, Michael
Jef Costello Posted yesterday at 01:36 PM Posted yesterday at 01:36 PM As far as I know RSBN beacon is similar to a Tacan. I don't think "RETURN" mode works for a RSBN, I suppose you need a PRGM in order to get "RETURN" mode working.
ED Team NineLine Posted yesterday at 02:42 PM ED Team Posted yesterday at 02:42 PM As explained in the video, Return mode is based on the aerodrome selected on the NAV panel. The RSBN though can be used to correlate the Point accuracy with the INS (CORR). Once within range and on course, it will automatically switch to Landing mode, assuming the PRGM units are set up correctly. edineygomes Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) Hi! I opened your mission here. According to the tutorial, the PRMG Localizer should be at the end of the runway, in the direction you will land, 200 meters from the end of the runway. Also your DTC is missing the airport RSBN and PRMG data. I changed your mission as I understood in the tutorial. I couldn't get it to work, but I believe that's it. However, even following the tutorial, I can't get the system to detect the automatic RSBN via DTC using the return option. If I activate the landing key, it retrieves the RSBN manually. Michael-Fr Posted 9 hours ago Author Posted 9 hours ago (edited) My PMRG localizer beacons were indeed misplaced. I see you've modified the RSBN points in the DTC to match the airport ones. My approach is different, using the RSBN points from the DTC to define my route as waypoints. When I switch to airport channels from the cockpit, I manually set the RSBN and PMRG channels for the chosen airport. I noticed my other mistake was trying to use RETURN mode with my airports 2 or 3; this mode only seems to point to airport 1 programmed on the DTC. I'll test again. I am attaching a file of my corrected mission. And I take advantage of this thread to point out that I do not receive the sound feedback from the glyde and the alignment during landing .. moreover I would like to add an ADF beacon to be able to listen to the morse code emitted by the latter (but I do not know if this is possible, nor how to configure this from the mission editor) Mig 29-Kola-test.miz Edited 4 hours ago by Michael-Fr update the .miz file

Michael-Fr Posted 4 hours ago Author Posted 4 hours ago I tried again: The RETURN mode worked on my airfield 1 (having recorded on RSBN in the DTC). For airport 2: I configured it for approach (AP2 and Beacon 2), but the return mode still pointed to airport 1. So I'm lost. Did I do something wrong, or does this mode only work with airport 1?
edineygomes Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago The problem here is that the PRMG is not working via DTC when using RETURN mode automatically. Only the RSBN.
Solution Dača Posted 4 hours ago Solution Posted 4 hours ago 6 minutes ago, edineygomes said: The problem here is that the PRMG is not working via DTC when using RETURN mode automatically. Only the RSBN. Works for me. PRGM is only localizer and glideslope for landing. Something like ILS RSBN is beacon which directs yellow needle on HSI to it's signal. Something like TACAN. When you press return mode, you should make sure that beacon and airdrome button are pressed to correct numbers. Also make sure that switch 0-179° - 180-359° is placed to one of this and according to value of runway magnetic heading.
Michael-Fr Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago And to return to the original topic of this discussion: my mistake was thinking there was no difference between an RSBN landed and pointed from the cockpit at a base, and the same one recorded in the DTC (... to be able to use the RETURN mode correctly). Apologies for wasting your time, and thank you very much. 1
