Hiya fellow rotorheads.

I wonder if there's a problem with the new trimming system? I put it on and my helo now gently oscillates around its roll and yaw axii in level flight! Looks almost as if the AP / damping system can't resolve the AC state anymore, but keeps on hunting around for the zero point without ever really finding it (and yes, the bugger is properly trimmed &c. so it _shouldn't_ be an operational error this time).

Have you guys seen this?

PS. The old trimmer works 100% even in v1.01 so in that sense I'm still good - just thought I'd ask because who knows, maybe I found a bug or something :music_whistling:

When I've had oscillations, I've looked down to see I either forgot to engage the Auto pilot modes during start up, or they've disengaged due to damage/landing. Also, if you engaged Route following mode but haven't trimmed yourself properly, that can sometimes cause it. Make sure you have centred your bubble/ball and are flying a steady course before engaging Auto pilot.

I think another cause has been if you haven't turned your INS on during start up, it takes a couple of minutes to wind up and stabalise, but I may be wrong on that one.

This can happen when you have trimmed too much rudder and the heading hold is trying to fight it.Try turning heading hold off.

Re-trim in forward flight. Then switch HH back on.

Thanks for the tips guys, will try them out. But what kind of bugs me is that the _old_ trimmer method seems to work correctly in similar situations! I wonder why that is?

But never mind. I'll either sort it out, or just keep on using the old method which has always worked well for me anyway. Thanks again guys and keep the eggbeater side up ;)

I have found that I have trouble getting my helo leveled good whilst trimming. I just got the sim last week and immediately installed the patch, so have no experience yet with the old trimmer to compare, though I may give it a try.

When I say getting it level, I press and hold my trim button, and get the helo where I want it, and level. I release the trim, and it seems it wants to roll very slightly, either right or left. Like it just is not happy being level.

I also may go in my Cougar's stick profile and adjust my deadzones or axis curves and see if that will help any as well.

That happens in every chopper when you get faster, it's caused due to asymmetric lift and rotor cone inclination.

Ah ok then, I won't worry much about it, thanks for the info.

yeah since connecting my G25 pedals... if I use the new method... im still flying a turkey - gone back to the old trim setting last night and flew around and landed for a good hour or so - so gonna map a button for x or y on my stick and see if this cancels out the non centre rudder effect im seeing (saw this in another post) and see if the new trim works with that - seems to me whenever I have used the rudder and left go it doesnt always go bang on in the middle - I guess I trim and then trim a slight rudder amount in there with it.... using the old trim method seems to bypass my dodgy pedals ?

If you use G25 pedals remember to switch off FFB in \Ka-50\Config\Producer.cfg (edit with notepad and change line: "ForceFeedbackEnabled = true;" to "false;") unless you have FFB stick. Otherwise trimmer won't work properly 'cuz BS takes G25 wheel FFB as a FFB flight stick.

You might try what Pogo listed below from another thread -

You guys may already know this, but here is something interesting that I've just found.

If you are flying with rudder pedals or a twist stick, you can tap either the X or Z keys (the default keyboard mapping for rudder) and it will do two things.

1. It will re-center your rudder input independently of trim.

So if you rudder is trimmed off center and you want quickly center it just tap Z or X. I am still pondering this but I am thinking that you can use this in a macro or script to de-couple rudder from the trim.

2. It sets the Heading Autopilot to your current heading, again, independently of trim.

What this means is that if you are using a non-FF stick you don't have to trim just to change heading, just tap the Z or X key and the Autopilot will hold that heading.

This is actually quite a revelation for me. I wonder why using the keyboard rudder sets the Heading Autopilot to the new heading while using an Axis doesn't? This is a pretty significant difference in functionality between the two.

Cheers,

Pogo
