I mean i entered a cockpit and not able to read any switch... that really is nerve wrecking. LOL Will appreciate if someone can advise me on how i can change the working to english. BTW, i'm extremely new to DCS Black shark and i've bought it for months but still reluctant to learn it because of not able to understand the switches and buttons. If only it can be in english. Thanks in advance for any advise given.

Also you can search forum there is solution how to change language from Russian to English. I would like to say but it is not allowed unofficially. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Go to Options and click the GAMEPLAY tab. Now in the upper right corner change "COCKPIT LANGUAGE" from RUSSIAN to ENGLISH. done. However, when i'm doing the training, the cockpit is in russian. Is this how it is? The flight instructor is talking too fast and the cursor circling the buttons and switches is moving too slow. Its hard to remember all of them. What ironic is that at the end of the lesson, he said i must remember everything with a blink of my eyes or something like that. LOL
Pyroflash Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 (edited) yeah, you eventually get the hang of it, but it takes a while. During the training all settings are reset to the defaults so you have to watch out for that. What's worse is the night missions, when you have to start up the heli during those, you better remember where all of the switches are, because until you get the power up, you can't even see anything :) Edited September 14, 2009 by Pyroflash If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
dburne Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Yeah shortly after viewing the first training mission on how to start up the helicopter, I quickly found the win key - home combination... :) As far as the language in the training, perhaps in the recorded training tracks it defaults to russion in the cockpit, but I would think when you take control it would default to the english setting chosen in the options menu. LOL Ok I just went back in and checked mine. My install is the English version, patched to 1.01A In the gameplay menu in settings, I have english cockpit checked and to apply to all missions checked. I loaded up the accelerated startup training mission, and while the instructor was talking and panning around, all the text in my cockpit was in English. So if you indeed have the english version, with the same options checked, I would think you certainly should be seeing English text in the cockpit - unless you do have something else installed that might conflict and cause that. Wags explains all systems from basic startup to weapons deployment and as they are videos instead of ingame tracks, you can easily rewind or pause them in the media-player and of course skip things you already know. Familiarization (FAM course) => Cockpit Systems I haven't try loading other mission yet as i wanted to be familiar with the cockpit first. This sim is too taxing. LOL My copy of the game is the retail boxed English version. So far only tried to load a campaign and inside there, the cockpit is all in English. I'm not sure about the rest of the training mission but the above mentioned training mission does shows all the text inside the cockpit in Russian. Feuerfalke, regarding the video track. Is it inside the install disk? haven't try looking at the content of the disk.

I just checked the same training mission you are referring to , and mine displays Russian text in that one as well. I think you will find as you progress along that yours will display in English as well. For whatever reason that one is displaying in Russian. The complexity of the simulation is very overwhelming in the beginning, but it is even more rewarding once you learn how to fly and operate your BlackShark. For the videos: I read a statement the videos were included in the DVD-Version. I assume it is in the Docs-Folder containing the manuals and keylists? But I'm not sure as I only have the Download-Version. There is a movies folder that exists on my BS install but nothing in it, would be simple matter to copy them over to it from the DVD to have easily accessible I guess. Most players are always willing to answer questions and assist people learning the game. They should at least have some thing on the launch menu when you pop-in the DVD. Easier to locate rather then hiding in stealth. LOL Thanks for pointing that out. Helps a lot. :)
