Hi all..

I have recently found out that there are some functionality differences between the CD DCS english version and the downloaded DCS english version. My question is have these differences been fixed due to the 1.0.1 patch? Or do the 2 versions still retain the "differences" after the patch is installed? :helpsmilie:

There are none - bar the fact that one comes on a DVD and the other via your internet connection of course =)

No, there are still some differences.

We recently tested the same MP mission on a UK-DVD-version and an US-DL-version. It turned out that in the UK-DVD-Version hosted sessions the artillery was in 10 out of 10 missions unable to hit a specified target.

The same mission hosted by the US-DL-Version ended with the artillery destroying the target 10 out of 10 times with the first salvo.

This is a screenshot of the impact area after two salvos, hosted on the UK-DVD-Version:

This is a screenshot of the same impact area after the first salvo, hosted on the US-DL-Version:

US-DL.jpg

Same picture in 10 out of 10 missions. Each time the UK-Version scattered only in one direction, with the notable tendency to fire much too short or long, whereas the impacts in the US-DL-Version were scattered in a circular area around the assigned target. :(

That is totally strange... As far as I've understood of everything I've read on these forums there should be no difference at all?

Nonsense. The only difference is that DVD contains "producer note" videos.

In days gone by, this would have been settled with Duelling Pistols at Dawn under the Sycamore Tree.........:D

How about posting the specific mission and we can all test it and post the results here, specifying which version it was tested on. My Curiosity has been piqued and I would like to muddle a little further into this......

Why should I want to risk my life for it? I'm not accusing anybody of anything. I found something odd and reported it.

You're welcome for testing, though - it's "Black Gold of Anapa", the new mission from Dragon2781.

As posted in the Bugs section, we tested the mission over 2 days and confirmed the ABRIS-crash as well as the stated differences in artillery accuracity.

I don't know WHY that is the case, but the identical mission showed the above results in every test we ran. That's not a random outcome.

If it is nonsense, well, I'm happy next time I run it, this won't occur. I'm fine with that.

the can of worms opens...

**edit* Looks like we can at least confirm the "differences"( if any ) are at least not intentional.. May be a bug

I only reiterated what I've read in what I interpreted as official statements in these very forums. I've been reading almost every single post in this forum since the release of Black Shark and I can take pride in not blatantly making stupid posts that does not help the OP of a thread or at least bring forth something to the table. I think I'll leave it at that.

I'm also one of the people interested in helping studying this matter. Honestly it feels really strange since there really shouldn't be any difference at all between the versions. I mean, aren't they exact binary duplicates of each other?

Maybe the differences have something to do with the regional settings (a comma here, point there... =D )?

In order to have a functioning community one has to be able to trust sources other than the "officials", otherwise it's nothing more than a message board for contacting the developers. Of course, in matters that we can be sure that no one other than the developers knows anything about one has to turn to them, but in matters such as these - which has been discussed before and almost anyone can confirm (a whole lot of people actually bought both DL and DVD versions) I'm not the one complaining about a plausible answer from someone else...

Now sorry about going all crazy and off topic, just had a rough day I guess. =) Thanks for listening and again, sorry for not contributing to the thread in this post. I should've kept this in a PM...

Love this great community and all the people in it. Peace . We should fly together swepain, both being swedes and in the same timezone and all! ;)

Check the Paladin artillery.

In the editor you can adjust the size of the targetarea of the Paladin.

Maybe to 500m.

If the host of the mission have a CD-version the Paladin will spread the whole targetarea.

If the host of the mission have a DL-version the Paladin will shoot in a line near the center of the targetarea.

No, because of this issue I have removed the Paladin and insert a M270.

If you want to test it, load "Defense of Batumi".

Roger that - I'd just set up a mission myself, with various artillery systems, so we can pin-down any possible problems to either the ballistics in general or certain types of artillery.

If that leads to no result, we can still fall back on the missions we observed this with initially.
