4c Hajduk Veljko Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 If it saves a single coalition or civilian life, it's worth 16 Hellfires.I agree, the life is priceless. And the hell fire was fired in civilian area ... Yet, the resources are limited. And talking about life, the insurance companies and the government have exact price, in dollars, on a civilian or soldier life. You would be surprised, but it is not much higher then the price of a single Hellfire missile. golfsierra2 Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 (edited) It's not for the guy with the AK, it's for the guy which thinks about becoming a insurgent. This videos are part of the PSYOPS campaign. Sorry to say that, but you don't have a clue what PSYOPS is about and how it's done. This topic is totally OT for this forum, and should be deleted, at least closed. Edited September 25, 2009 by golfsierra2 2 kind regards, Raven.... If you figure in lost tax revenue, and lifetime VA benefits for next of kin it *probably* goes over 1 million .
ED Team Groove Posted September 25, 2009 ED Team Posted September 25, 2009 (edited) Sorry to say that, but you don't have a clue what PSYOPS is about and how it's done. CE_Mikemonster Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 (edited) Price doesn't come into it Hajduk, you've already said so yourself I agree, the life is priceless. [And the hell fire was fired in civilian area] So we can stop all this about the US economy, none of us are economists (I think ;)), so we don't understand it well enough to debate, even if you do. Either way it's OT and unrelated based on the above statement. Anyway if they weren't going to use hellfires they'd have had to use something bigger. Psyops might be why these videos are released, but that's nothing to do with justifying posting them here. Unless someone who flies DCS and LOMAC was considering meeting Uncle Taliban in Afghanistan for a few pints and discussing the current 'jihad'. Suppose you never know. Clever tactics by the DoD ;) They are posted here either for tactics insights or entertainment, and I don't see any tactics insight here.. (actually can we not have a forum rule that reflects that? 'Videos posted showing death must be posted solely for the reasons of illustrating the tactics used' Can't get fairer than that. Videos of dismembered bodies are allowed, yet swearing is not..?) GGTharos Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 They are posted here either for tactics insights or entertainment, and I don't see any tactics insight here.. You don't? Consider the choice of weapon and its upgrades to start with. This is a significant change from using the gun; rockets are already too inaccurate for this purpose, and the gun can hit buildings around the aim point and penetrate them. By comparison the hellfire hitting outside of a building is far, far less likely to cause casualties inside the building (and conversely, very effective on a direct hit). tflash Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Indeed, same reason the Brimstone missile, which was millimeter wave radar guided only, has been augmented with a dual-mode seeker supporting laser guidance. A laser-guidded missile or bomb is the weapon of choice in these scenario's, since you have a man in the loop that can engage targets without lock and can try to minimize collateral damage. Laser-guided Hellfire is what you need in this environment. You also have choice between blast-fragmentation or thermobaric warheads (besides HEAT). Many coalition nations are developing laser-guided rockets also, since classic rockets are effective but too unprecise. Paveway IV also has excellent options, but is of course often too powerfull. CE_Mikemonster Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 If you're saying that the intention behind this vid was to educate us on the intricacy of choice of guidance methods in built up areas then fair enough.. 5 Armed Insurgents Meet 3 Hellfire Missiles. Sounds educational. Obviously any video of killing can give some information. I'd be very interested if somebody could give a narration of the different sequences of the attack, including the actions of the crew. I think we have an AH-64 pilot in the forums, and that would be educational. Too many cowboys. Not enough indians. GO APE SH*T
rogue_blade Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 I like what you've said EricJ. To those who have such an issue with this video being posted....what do you honestly expect? Like I'm not saying to bugger off or anything, but really; look at the type of forum you are in, look at the category of this sub forum; these types of videos will be posted, they fit the category, they are on topic and cover the material that we come in here to see. That's how I feel about it. I figure anyway that most people that come here are avid internet users, and the way I see it, any avid internet user has 'seen it all'. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
nscode Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 But... the overall point is that while war is hell, you have to be there to experience it been there, done that... the recieving side. had huge fuel tankers roll close by too. But there was one man who made it all easier. Mr. jamie shea (we called him Shameie Jay). The things that man used to say..:megalol: Once he told SkyNews how we are very angry at our government for taking all fuel for the army, and not giving any to us. And why? Well, according to him, we love very much to go on picnics on weekends, but now there is no fuel, so we can't  Do Afghan children like to go on picnics too? Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
CE_Mikemonster Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Well I think it's odd that we can get banned for swearing, but it's ok to candidly post videos of people being dismembered. It's ****ing absurd. I don't think the video is especially graphic, don't get me wrong, but I think it was posted for patriotic reasons and nothing else. Too many cowboys. Not enough indians. nscode Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 I think that as a publisher of a title that is rated for 12+, ED should protect themselves from parrent lawsuits and dissallow such videos on official forums. Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
AlphaOneSix Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Do Afghan children like to go on picnics too? No, but they do love to play soccer (football)!
