Doc. Caliban Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Hello, Why is it that I keep running into enemy that I cannot kill? We're talking about 6 missile hits on a soft vehicle without so much as scratching it's paint. This happens a LOT and I have to just give up on the mission. Ideas? -Doc [ Asus Rampage II Extreme | Intel i7 920 @ 3.6GHz| 12GB DDR3 | 3-Way SLI (3x GTX280OC 1GB) | 300GB Raptor | SupremeFX X-Fi 7.1 audio | 1,200W Thermaltake Toughpower PSU | 30" LCD @ 2560x1600 | Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar | TrackIR 5 | CoolerMaster HFC 332 case ]
Nate--IRL-- Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 If it is a vehicle is placed as a static object it can't be killed IIRC, however it also can't kill you as it is inert. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Doc. Caliban Posted September 27, 2009 Author Posted September 27, 2009 In the 'Clear Whats-it' mission, where you have to clear out the town before the convoy passes through, I see about 5 missile launchers next to the road. I can shoot them all day and they don't die. I'm convinced that this is a problem, and not a game parameter issue. I have also fired at vehicles and found that the missile detonates a few meters before hitting it, no matter how close I am. If I move around laterally, suddenly the missile can get through. So I seem to have an invisible force field issue at times as well. STP Dragon Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Nate: You CAN kill static objects! E.g. a static F-117 will take 2 hits by Vikhr. Doc: Do you have a Track? VMFA117_Poko Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Maybe these are still unactivated ground objects but with checked box "visible before start" in editor...? They will activate when you get a 'lil bit closer (if you find yourself in trigger zone).
VS461 Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 ... a static F-117 will take 2 hits by Vikhr... OFF! 2 Vikhrs??? :shocking: As strong as an Abrams... well, those Skunk Works guys knew something...:D. ON! За всю историю никто и никогда не сумел завоевать Афганистан. Hикто и никогда
-Bazong- Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Hello, Why is it that I keep running into enemy that I cannot kill? We're talking about 6 missile hits on a soft vehicle without so much as scratching it's paint. This happens a LOT and I have to just give up on the mission. Ideas? -Doc Are you trying to shoot them from very long range? Maybe there is some object (some building) in front of them that has'nt faded in? This happens to me sometimes..
JG14_Smil Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 yes, as Bazong says, there can be terrain in front of the target that is not drawn on your Shkval.
Boberro Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 So use config to drawn all things, personally I hate this fading so I don't use it. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Doc. Caliban Posted September 28, 2009 Author Posted September 28, 2009 A couple issues: There are cases where there are undrawn things blocking the shots, yes. I've gotten used to dealing with that. However, there are times when the thing is sitting in the middle of nowhere, well within missile range, and the weapon detonates just before striking the target. If I move laterally to a new position, it may hit and destroy the target. Flying to the target reveals no hidden map elements that may have blocked the original shot. Can someone confirm for me: In the "Clear What's-it" mission, where you have to clear out the town before the convoy passes through it, I see 4 or 5 vehicles with 3 large missiles on top parked off to the side of the road in a big grassy area near some buildings. What are those? I can't kill them, and apparently they aren't targets. Am I seeing things? GGTharos Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 You may be running into a laser timing issue (does the timer expire before the missile reaches the target) or perhaps a fuze setting issue. But to be sure, please post a track when this happens next. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Doc. Caliban Posted September 28, 2009 Author Posted September 28, 2009 Not sure about the timer, but since the target is within weapon launching constaints I'd imagine it's not the issue. Also. firing from the same distance but a different location may result in a hit. BTW, not related but saving the track reminded me to ask this: How do I take screen shots? I hit the SysRq button and I get that momentary pause at it (I assume) does the screen cap, but nothing ever shows up in the screenshot directory. Lava Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 In this case, I think you're shooting a train, Doc Caliban. There's often ONE vehicle parked near the tracks that you need to take out. Next to it, there is a whole train loaded with military hardware like tanks and missiles. That is not a target. Just a train parked. I'm 95% sure that's what your shooting, as I often play that mission!
Doc. Caliban Posted September 28, 2009 Author Posted September 28, 2009 I think I know the one you are referring to. That's the other side of the road from where I'm talking about. There are 4 to 5 missile launching vehicles parked out in a grassy area on the other side of the road. [ Asus Rampage II Extreme | Intel i7 920 @ 3.6GHz| 12GB DDR3 | 3-Way SLI (3x GTX280OC 1GB) | 300GB Raptor | SupremeFX X-Fi 7.1 audio | 1,200W Thermaltake Toughpower PSU | 30" LCD @ 2560x1600 | Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar | TrackIR 5 | CoolerMaster HFC 332 case ]
barra733 Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 If your missile is exploding before hitting the target are you sure you don't have aircraft targeting or head on aspect mode engaged? This makes the missile expolde early to 'pepper' the aircraft...
Doc. Caliban Posted September 28, 2009 Author Posted September 28, 2009 Ahhh, now that sounds like something to look at. The next time it happens, I'll check it out! 26-J39 Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Also make sure your shkval tracking gates are not too big... I usually reduce the tracking gates down to the minimum size and target the vehicle slightly high... (target top of vehicle) Targeting a vehicle's lower regions (:P) will sometime cauz the vikhr to hit the ground just before the target..
Bek Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I KNOW WHAT THIS IS... I think :P In that particular mission (Clear Tv...something), those Missiles you are talking about are always there, HOWEVER they are only used on certain events.. The mission is.. dynamic in a way, for example: Once you will receive a message from the tower that the enemy has placed a HAWK battery in the area, destroy this then continue with planned mission. THESE are the missiles you are shooting. When any of the other events happen (nothing, and I've also had the tower say that there is incoming aircrafts, return to about 500m from the FARP and wait until Dandra I think it is sends some MIG's to take them out. Another event is when some planes come in and carpet bomb the area for you.) So, with that particular mission, IGNORE the missiles unless you get the message, in which case they should attack you.. They are arranged in a cube configuration, one pointing each direction right? Hope this helps. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Doc. Caliban Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 Spot-on, Bek, those are the birds. Are they visible in every iteration of the mission? (I ask because I have an unrelated issue with skins not showing up on some vehicles. In this instance, all I can actually see are the missiles themselves, not the platform.) [ Asus Rampage II Extreme | Intel i7 920 @ 3.6GHz| 12GB DDR3 | 3-Way SLI (3x GTX280OC 1GB) | 300GB Raptor | SupremeFX X-Fi 7.1 audio | 1,200W Thermaltake Toughpower PSU | 30" LCD @ 2560x1600 | Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar | TrackIR 5 | CoolerMaster HFC 332 case ]
Bek Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I can only see the missiles, the stands only show up when that part of the mission is active it seems. They are always there no matter what option the mission takes. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
