Well Guys. I am now the proud owner of a gorgeous piece of cold steel. It's big, black and comes in 2 parts. It's a Thrustmaster Cougar. It finally arrived at 15:35BST on Thursday. Believe me when i say this but it's the best Joystick I've owned and is only the second HOTAS I've had. The first being 104th_Polecat's old Thrustmaster F-22 Pro and F-16 TQS that I've had since my Saitek ST-200 broke on me at the beginning of the year. Check out the photo's for a comparison. (ignore the datestamp on the photo's. took these pics after changing the battery on the camera and didn't bother changing the date.)

Most Excellent!

Just be sure to check that the Gimbals are properly Greased prior to using. Was an issue with some.

The Uber II NXT and FSSB are excellent mods, both of which I own. Be aware however that these mods are totally optional. Don't get me wrong, modding a Cougar is great! Using an NXT or FSSB modded Cougar is awesome and yields a HOTAS in a class all by itself. The point I am making here is that there is absolutely not a requirement to MOD a stock Cougar by spending large amounts of cash.

If you want or need to address any possible wear issues to prolong the life of your stock Cougar and minimize the chance of increased center play over time you also have two very low cost options for that:

1: Open the stick twice per year and clean out the old grease and re-grease. This will remove the older grease and with it any metal particles caused by galling and by extension reduce wear to a minimum. (Takes about 10 minutes)

2: Buy 50 cents worth of Mylar and a pair of 2 cent staples or splurge and go for 5 dollars worth of hobby brass and you can be finished with it. Pretty much no serious wear will occur if you do either of these DIY mods and instead of paying 400USD on a mod you can all but eliminate the issue for the whopping cost of 54 cents or 5 bucks.:smilewink:

I have many friends and squad mates that have not even bothered to do this much to their stock Cougars and have been very happy with theirs for quite some time.

Enjoy your Cougar!
