Engine sound way too loud during multiplayer and only when I'm the client.

Hello folks,

After upgrading to Windows Vista 64 Ultimate a problem I didn't have before has appeared.

When I join a multiplayer session as the client the cockpit sound is ridiculously loud. It seems that there's another aircraft's nozzle right on my face.

Even after starting engines or taking off the problem does not disappear.

When playing a single player game or when I am the host I do not encounter the problem. It only happens when I join a multiplayer session as the client.

Is there a fix to it?

I have an Asus M4a78T-E as my motherboard and my onboard sound drive is a VIA High Definition Audio.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a fix for this but you will need dedicated Creative brand Sound Card. Basically you'd need to buy Creative X-Fi or another one of their cards, install its drivers, then download Alchemy driver/filter, add LockOn game to the list of supported games and that will fix it.

There's no support whatsoever for Lockon under Windows Vista 64? What about for Windows 7? Does the game work under this platform without this sound bug?

Don't take me the wrong way. I don't know if you've said this out of disdain for the product or out of irony, but this is not a fix, it's a slap in the face.

I am sure there are numerous users running Lockon under Windows Vista who do not own or have not thought it to be fair for them to be obligated to purchase a separate sound board because the game producer has not yet implemented meager support for new operational systems that have been released years ago.

I simply can't believe I'm alone on this boat. Isn't there any plausible fix for this problem?

either you do this or get XP installed

The same problem exists under Windows vista32, i have it too, the only solution to it was to install

WindowsXP (dualboot)

Any reports how Lockon/Flamingcliffs runs on Windows7?

Like the Clappers

I have a Rampage Extreme Motherboard with an On-Board Creative Sound Card. The negative is that due to the inavailability of drivers to date I am unable to install the Soundcard Software and thus suffer the above Bug in LockOn. It however only lasts until I have taxied a Coupla meters away from the Spawning Point and thereafter ceases. With BS I just open the Cockpit Door and the Bug is vaporized.

Apart from that, runs LockOn very well indeed.

Well, sorry for my harsh reply. I just got really upset that such a solution would be the only thing available for such a great game.

What puzzles me is why the developers seem to have forgotten about the game. There is a wish list for patch 1.13 which goes on forever and I seriously doubt any of that will ever get into the game.

It has been years that a lot of bugs have been repeatedly reported and reposted and none of the developers seem to do anything about it.

Indeed they do have their goals in delivering military sims for their high-paying contractors, but if the gaming business did not generate enough revenue to keep them happy, they wouldn't even bother to protect their product with Starforce, for example, which I read is one of the most expensive copy protection systems available in the market.

Eagle Dynamics doesn't have a small developers' team. And relocating some of its human resources to develop patches to correct bugs that have plaguing this simulation for years only sounds the more sensible.

Sure the developers pop up on the forums every now and them and say they listen and abide by some of our pleas, but isn't it time for you guys to really do something about Lockon? Or do you only base yourselves on the criteria that since there are no other competitive and equivalent sims on the market Lock on can be left "as is" and let the end-users roll-up their sleeves and try and solve problems that you should have solved in the first place?

I love this product and have supported it since day one, but the lack of initiative from the developers is definitely something bewilder even the most skeptical ones.

There's no ranting in the post above. Just my sadness in seeing such a great product left to rust in the open in favor of god-knows-what.

Have you tried changing sound acceleration in dxdiag. I not sure how it work in Windows x64 but in xp, i go to run, type in dxdiag and go to sound, there I change the sound acceleration.

I do not know if this will help, but is worth the try I think.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Most of time if you hit your after buner for a few second and take it back to idle the sound will decrease significantly. However if you change views or got to the map screen it will also get the bug. :music_whistling:

How many sims that came out in 2003 are getting updates? How could a game released in 2003 ever anticiapte compatibilty with a operating system that is released years after? Perhaps you missed it, but ED are planning an update to Lock On for this year or early next year. Perhaps they will fix this sound bug with the update. I think the chances are very good.

Also, in my own opinion Vista is a big POS when it comes to gaming. It hogs way more resources than XP. Until Win7 is officially released, I would have never ever bothered with Vista.

I heard someplace that Eagle has about 50ish employees and that they are working on multiple projects at once.

As for the sound problem, the engine that runs lockon was developed way before anyone knew about Vista and how Vista would change its sound options. It simply may not be possible to have a patch to correct this because it could destroy the rest of the core engine functions.
