this is in my other post aswell but for you lazy people!

this trick works on most cards, i tryed it on my ge6800 standard from 12 piplines to 16!!! so to share my success i share it with you guys!

1) download "RivaTuner" from: http://downloads.guru3d.com/downloa...2d49e3dcfc0e6aa

2) install "rivaTuner"

3)then follow this guide!

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=841145

4) then go to your nvidia controls (right click Nvidia display--> Clock Frequency Settings) then i did:

- manual overclocking,

- performace 3d,

-Detect Optimal Frequencies!

and bingo!!!

then made my own lomac profile 8AA 16Af 1024x1024 and 25FPS and higher!

hope this helps

rekoal,

PS may be a good idea to make this a sticky!

Best way to check if it went well - look for artefacts in 3Dmark2005.

More pipes - more power and more heat, so be aware (350+ watt PU & watch "hardware monitoring" in RT).

I was able to unlock the pipes on my Leadtek 6800, but it was not stable and couldn't be OCed at all after unlocking. Some people have better luck, so it's a crapshoot. I found that I get better performance by leaving the pipes locked and OCing. Each person must find the best result for themselves. Good luck.

Just remember that in most cases pipes are disabled for a reason... the other pipelines don't work properly. Just like CPUs, some chips come off the production line perfect, and become top of the range products. But many have random defects which mean parts of the chip don't work properly. Some of these have to go in the trash, others can be used at slower speeds or with sections disabled.

I have a 9800se with 4 pipelines which can be unlocked to 8 (9800Pro), but I then get lots of nasty patterns on the screen caused by defects in the other 4 pipelines. On the other hand I have an X800Pro which unlocked perfectly from 12 to 16 pipelines, but I did research the card I bought to give myself a good chance of success. It came from a good batch at a particular supplier I was keeping an eye on.

However (as chp warns above) even if you get lucky, it's important to remember that lower end vid cards often come with lower end cooling solutions, due to the lack of speed and relative lack of heat. Unlocking pipelines could kill your card if you're unlucky. At the very least it will pump more heat into your case and possible mean other things overheat. So make sure you have good cooling.

As ever, playing with hardware is good fun, but not without its risks. Just thought I'd throw that in before folk get too over-excited :-)

YEh... As people already stated it's up for luck and can be dangerous... However... If you want to buy card to unlock the pipes, I suggest you go with MSI NX 6800. They have a very high sucess rate, due to them using very good chips (which would normally be used fo GT's), and their cooling solution is good enough to cope with extra pipelines...

I myself have a rather strange hybrid card, its ASUS v9999GT/TD with 6800GT core, but 128Mb DDR1 RAM... Works quite well thou... By crap CPU, mobo and RAM are bottlenecking me now, lol

I got my x800pro vivo running as a x800 XTPE via a bios flash. Only issue is I get a funny flicker in the top right hand of the screen in FB/PF. It's not a huge issue, everything else seems fine.
