prodrifter Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 (edited) I want to post this thread so everybody can tell about their "close calls" when flying. Like Sam's almost hitting your heli and such. Because I think it is pretty many good stories out there like all want to hear about! :D Now I want to tell my story that happened yesterday: I was going in for the last Sam on the mission with my unguided rockets. He was almost in my sight when it launched its Sam, I reacted quickly by banking hard right when I thought it was going to hit me. Suddenly I heard "swoosh" like 1 meter besides my cockpit and I was like WTF? Thats when I saw my left weapon wing was gone and pretty amazing I could see the weapons on my left side was gone on my weapon panel... I must say, the most realistic and best simulation I have ever played! Edited November 5, 2009 by prodrifter 1
Boberro Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Few days ago I was hit by Bradley's missile and lost left wing. Right wing was ok and I was able to fire vikhr from this wing :D Rarely I hear "swoosh", most times I die ;] Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... joey45 Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 I saw something fly past my windscreen once, feek knows what is was but it squashed a fly when it went past.. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. 26-J39 Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Lost both my wings in "Dragons Defense of Batumi" :D Managed to kill a couple more targets with cannon :P
Kwill Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 I once lost my whole tail section, the chopper was really hard to fly but I still made it back to the FARP. It looked like a potato with rotors attached to the top lol.
prodrifter Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 Lost both my wings in "Dragons Defense of Batumi" :D Managed to kill a couple more targets with cannon :P LoL, how did you manage to do that? xD And I also like your "/mybad" command of yours!
26-J39 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Had one sam explode to my side which took off one wing, then the other was blown off about 10 seconds later while i was buggin out.. :P Re: /mybad, i get this every time i take a screenie.. Have no idea why
driver7408 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I had this awesome flight once. Felt like I was getting hit repeatedly by artillery fire, but somehow, my tactical flying skills and clever use of flares was simply no match for the AI enemy. I ended up single handedly destroying 2 convoys in my 30 minute sortie. I later reviewed the track, After the first 2 minutes, I quickly realized I had been playing in "invincible" mode. :noexpression:

26-J39 Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) Ahh.. ok.. Thanks Boberro. :) I gather there is nothing i can do about it? *edit* just thinkin.. this happens on my client PC, which has no servman installed.. ohwell It's all good .. if i stresses me i'll post on the prob/bug threads.. cheers Edited November 7, 2009 by 26-J39
beers Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I was tracking on an apache, waiting for him to turn in some way I could get a shot on him, and suddenly I see his wingman is pointed right at me in a hover at about 5 KM. I locked him up as quick as I could and just before I launched on his yankee ass I could see the smoke as he launched at my po' ass. i'm yelling "go go go go!" Apache gets hit, BANG, and his shot explodes a safe distance from me. So, between the arc travel of Hellfire vs the direct path of vikhr and the speed, it seems you can win even if you don't quite beat them to the punch!!! 2600K @ 4.2GHz, MSI P67A-GD55, 16GB G.Skill @2133 , GTX 970, Rift, SSD boot & DCS drive [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 ^^^ That is because the Apache isn't taking evasive action ... which should easily defeat your Vikhr while still maintaining lock with the hellfire. Pikey Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I remember scanning for Air Defense targets in a hover and wanting to change position. I think everyone goes through a phase of, "I wonder how fast I can accelerate, sprint and then stop into a hover". So i slammed nose down, collective up and moved to a new hill before screeching to a halt with the reverse process. It took me a second to realise what i had done, and being that it was very low level to start with, i didnt have much time to realise until the Helicopter started to shake. I think all my previous Vortex rings had resulted in death up to that point. I applied maximum collective and tried to hold it steady whilst thinking, "What on earth can i do?" Given i had about 10 seconds from entry to ground level, my newbie mind raced through the possible keypresses that could get me out of it when i came across what i thought was quite a laughable response. So i hit the "Lower Gear" key and watched my vertical decent with a sicky feeling!:helpsmilie: The ten seconds or so seemed a very short time and i remember the massive crunch as the aircraft hit the floor, all the while trying to stabilise it...then miraculously bounced. I had slowed the decent enought to prevent the complete destruction of the airframe...but something was wrong... That something had to do with the different array of lights on my gear panel from what was normal...! A picture would have illustrated this best, but when i took the aircraft back to home runway and landed gingerly on two wheels then gracefully tilted to my left as it settled on the collapsed left wheel I realised that I love this game far more for its aerodynamics and technical flight modelling than its combat simulation part. First post just to say thanks to ED for producing this game - its a fantastic achievement. ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *

How could Apache evade eaisly and still keep lock? What field of view in their TV is there? 360 degrees? :megalol: Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... GGTharos Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 It can turn perpendicular to you and still track, and puttingyou on the beam is the beginning of the most successful evasion maneuvers ;) How could Apache evade eaisly and still keep lock?
