Is it me or does the wheel beak not really work that well. If i put the cyclic forward a bit to start a forward roll then apply the wheel brake it does not really stop me.

I think its a parking brake, not a stop brake..... or they use drum brakes and not disc brakes.... saying that the front wheels are free moving and infact sterring is done by the rudder...

2000+ HP worth of engine is tough to stop ^.^

 

Just to be sure have a look at the BRAKE hydraulic pressure on the rear wall. It should be 0 when the brake is off and come up to match the rest of the pressures when on. You'll notice that the hydraulic system takes a hit on brake application because it saps some energy from it. I think if your hydraulic system(s) aren't up to full pressure the brake will be weaker than normal.

 

Also normal taxi procedure is to use back cyclic to slow the aircraft and even to use quite a bit of bank in turns! Weirds me out to this day to bank while taxiing.

The problem is not that 2000HP (or 4400HP or whatever) pull it forward, but that some of those are pulling it up! This causes friction of the tires to get rather low, which of course is bad for braking efforts.

 

Easiest way to help this is by lowering the throttle (2x PG DN). The RPM will lower and the rotor will no longer produce notable lift.

yeah, the Shark is pretty heavy...but the brakes definately do work...it is good if you also help by neutralising any cyclic input as well.

 

Steering on the ground shouldnt be done by rudder, but by cyclic input btw :P

I think the manual states a coordinated combination of pedals and cyclic for rolling taxi. Also trimming for taxi is recommended.

 

As for taxing with the throttles in anything but Auto, doesn't that dip your AC generators dangerously low and possibly doesn't keep the engines warmed up for takeoff? I'm sure less power makes things easier (Try FT-Low on the collective for a similar effect?) but it could have problems.

Center trim after landing, and watch the brake presure, when you secure the brake the pressure is lower than when pressing brake. I solved this securing brake quickly from pressing brake.
