Picky Americans... are there picky Russians, too?

I remember the days of wailing and moaning about Russian equipment dominating simulations like Flanker, Flanker 2. Then along came Lock On that tickled the American player with the A10 and F15.

Then came Black Shark and the grumbling started again (never mind that it's a great sim). Now, with the prospect of a highly modeled piece of American equipment looming over us, the vernable A-10, I wonder how well it is being received buy our Russian counterparts.

LOL :D - A Hogski!

To answer your question: To my personal experience especially with IL2, Russians are much more relaxed in this matter than most people in the western hemisphere are.

Just compare the numbers of users here, which are native Russians but speak and write in English to users from western countries speaking or writing Russian, to get an idea about what I mean ;)

Fred,

Nobody is being insulted (unless you are one of the picky ones). It's a legitemate question about the attitudes of game players world wide. Seeing as I can't read Russian, this is the best place to ask the question... general discussion.

ask yourselves, what would the world be like if there were never a USA?

Id like to see more UK and European aircraft. Tornado, Harrier, Typhoon, Mirage, Saab Viggen, and the much improved Westland WAH-64 Apache to name a few.

Never mind crappy Russian and US aircraft, give us some Euro aircraft. LOL

There are some euro fighters in other sims like Spitfire, Messerschmitts, Fokkers, sopwith camel (Il2, Rise of Flight).

It's always "We don't like Russian or US aircraft, even though they are the greatest in the world for obvious reasons, complain complain moan moan. Give us a Eurofighter." I think everyone has forgotten that the Chinese reversed engineer everything or just copy it and change the name around. Why not a J-11? :P It's basically a Su-27SK.

I would love to see a great Tornado sim, I still have the old disk from the last one released....

I really want the 64 after the a10, but I am a rotor head at heart :).

Yeah, Tornado was great sim. It was seriously-thought-out - something like first Flanker. It had complex and quite realistic autopilot IIRC.

Are you sure?

Without a western front in WW2, DCS would probably only be able to simulate German and Japanese planes. ;)

That's a bit harsh!

May I remind you of the best American fighter of World War 2 - the British P-51, built for the British, Improved by the British - need I say any more? :smilewink:

And the russian and US aircraft ARE NOT the best!

There is no such thing as THE BEST.

You will always find qualities in one plane the other doesn't have. It's not the plane that wins a fight, but the pilot who uses the knowledge how to set up his advantages against the opponents disadvantages.

What's so obvious?

Yes America and Russia are two super powers but does that mean they build the best aircraft?

Take the Harrier/Av-8* ground braking proven technology still much used in today's battlefield.

Vulcan Bomber- I think it still holds the record for the furthest successfully completed bombing run in history. I also remember it was in its heyday unbeatable in the Annual Strategic Air Commands Bombing and Navigation Competition, oh I also believe it managed to get through the NORAD defences when testing Americas defences against a nuclear strike.

Tornadoes where I believe the lowest flying bomber aircraft in the first IRAQ war with many successful sorties accomplished..

For a country the size of one of your average American state, I don't think we do too bad as Pilots and Aircraft designers.

I could go on but I think point is made.

Well, Jedi are better than Sith if the "Revenge of the Jedi" is of any measure. Still people love to play Sith in Star Wars games.

Same thing kinda applies to simulations. For the player it doesn't really matter so much which plane is better in reality. Hell, nobody really knows, because reality is more complex than a virtual dogfight.

As for me, I love flying those Russian birds. I'd also like to fly an Eurofighter, a Gripen or even a Super Tucano. I know American birds are good, but I am not really interested in flying them in a simulation.
