Will there be a version or update that will have the Apache AH64-D?

I believe there was an indication over a year ago that this would occur but haven't heard anything since.

AH64D? Probably not.

AH64A? Possible.

Why? Because the US military likes it's secrets. ;)

So true. Honestly an older AH-64A with analog gauges and less computer screens is a lot more doable in the fidelity that DCS strives for due to both the coding complexity as well as the accessibility of the military information. I think the Ka-50 is fun because it is clunky, disjointed, and not-streamlined.

Also a lot of what makes the AH-64D is its networking capabilities which have about a 0% chance of being handled well in DCS. It's already a chore to get the Ka-50 AI to utilize the very simplistic datalink system there.

...and don't believe that the Longbow version is all that counts in a battle! Still many armies use AH-64A upgraded to A+ just to be able to cooperate with Longbow Apaches. In a group of 4 AH-64s, three are A+ and one is Longbow (pinpointing targets and distributing them to the 3 A+ which engage them). Of course US Army don't really need to do that since most their Apaches are the D version but still I don't think that every Apache fly shorties with the Longbow equipped.

To me this isn't a problem since we fly the Shark but in real life(after a little research I 've done) a Ka-52 would act like a Longbow Apache(with its advanced sensors) coordinating the rest Ka-50.

In our simulation (DCS), having the Longbow Apache simulated means two things:

1) The Longbow radar won't operate realistically since sensor functions are usually classified. The simulation of the Longbow would probably be more of a guess of its function rather than an actual simulation the way ED does it.

2) To use all its functions you probably need real people flying with you.

Just a question... Wich variant of A-10 the DCS with simulate, the A or C variant? What about its RWR function? I think I've red somewhere, but can't remember where, that RWR is classified too! So are we going to get RWR with approximate functionality or it won't be simulated at all?

The next DCS module will be the A-10C, the RWR itself will not be classified however unless things have changed recently some RWR symbology will be, so we may get a "best guess/declassified adaptation" of the real symbology. This would be nothing new for sims as this data much like some HUD/MFD/Radar symbology is and always has been classified and approximated by sim developers. And of course, unless you have access to the real aircraft you wouldn't know it's incorrect anyway.

Yep, that's right.

A lot of stuff about the RWR is classified, including some symbology.

Most of us won't even know that stuff's missing.

^Interesting... Just finished reading Ed Macy's Hellfire, he says the FCR target icon for a camel is classified.. My best guess is that the FCR thinks a camel is a AA gun.. :smartass: or am I silly?:P

Certainly does give you some insight on the AH64D... :)

Not silly at all, might not think it's an AA gun but it'll think it's something in it's database.

Apache AH-1 old chap. We're British don't you know.

(Joking aside the Apache AH-1 has over 100 modifications compared to the US AH-64D including new engines and a totally new defensive system so they are basically different aircraft, albeit with the same family features)

I read Hellfire a few months back, certainly a very good read and was full of good gen on CAS procedures.
