GuntiNDDS Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) Update: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The issue is only in the new ati drivers 9.12. Reverting back to the old driver 9.10 "resolves" the issue If you are having this issue with a newer ATI Driver, please fill out short online form below to help get the issue resolved in newer drivers: http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D27E29B0E3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, i have set up a new system and in the game the rivers are now kind of "pulsating", like the water is radioactive or something :P i was wondering if theres some ini setting to disable the river flow-animations because i believe the effect comes from the animation+mip mapping. anyone got an idea ? thanks.- Edited January 17, 2010 by GuntiNDDS
JaBoG32_Prinzartus Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Same here. Especially in dusk or dawn, the texture seems to be flickering betweeen two states. (dark blue and light blue) I have a Radeon x4870. I think it might be a driver related issue. Windows 10, I7 8700k@5,15GHz, 32GB Ram, GTX1080, HOTAS Warthog, Oculus Rift CV1, Obutto R3volution, Buttkicker [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ЯБоГ32_Принз
Distiler Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 In nvidia, some textures flicker a bit, I fix it by setting "negative LOD bias" to "clamp". Dunno if this option is available in Ati drivers. AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
GuntiNDDS Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 i have a card from the same series: Radeon hd4890 i think the catalyst driver does not have the setting like the nvidia one.
GuntiNDDS Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 if there is no ini setting to disable the river animation, i guess the solution would be to replace the textures used by the animation.
Mustang Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Guys, if this more of an issue on the ATi range of cards, please let them know about it :) http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D27E29B0E3
EtherealN Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Have you tried water=0 in the graphics settings file? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=49041&highlight=water 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
GuntiNDDS Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Not yet, no. i will try that lateron. However i would prefer not to degrate the water quality too much since i have a system capable of running high details at good framerates.
EtherealN Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Well, it would help pinpointing the cause. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
Mustang Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 (edited) Guys, is this the kind of issue you're seeing? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=23981 I know thats for LO:FC and it's an old thread, but i'm wondering if this is the same kind of thing, since it applies to the edges of rivers too. Edited January 12, 2010 by Mustang
GuntiNDDS Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 not the issue for me. the issue i am describing only affects the rivers, not the ocean/ocean coastline. they look like the normal rivers, but their texture appears to "pulsate" between a dark and a lighter tone on a high frequency. if near at a part of a river, that part looks normal (with the animation playing) / must be very near. that is why i thought it might be connected to the mip-mapping. i will try to water=0 setting tommorow after work to see if this is connected to the glitch. 1
EtherealN Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Try water=1 as well. The options available at the option screen are 2 and 3, if I remember correctly, so water=1 might be a good compromise if changing that setting ends up fixing the problem. Mustang Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 GuntiNDDS, i can see what you mean now, pulsating coastlines and rivers (it also happens with LO:FC coastlines) I reverted back to 9.10 from 9.12, and the problem went away, give that a try (i hope 10.1 will not have this issue!)

GuntiNDDS Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 i have just tested setting the water to 0 in the ini. same effect as before :( will try reverting back to old driver on the weekend.
GuntiNDDS Posted January 17, 2010 Author Posted January 17, 2010 Mustang, you were absolutly correct. Reverting back to driver version 9.10 "fixes" the issue. Now off course one can only hope this will be fixed in the newer drivers.

Yeah rgrt, i'm glad you've confirmed this ;) Now, ATi needs to know about this bug, i've already filled out a Catalyst Crew bug report form, the more people who do that the better :) 1
Ramstein Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 I can't use any Catalyst version newer than 09.1. If I do I have problems. With 09.1 Cats I can fly all my games and flight sims. I suspect it's my video card Sapphire HD3870 that has some weird problem that will not let me use any new ATI Radeon Cat version. Mustang Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Damn, neither Catalyst 10.1 (official 8.69) or the 10.1 Beta (8.70) have the fix for FC/DCS :( I'm staying with 9.10 for the time being, i just hope more people report this issue to ATi so we can have this sorted out.
Mustang Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Great news! This driver 8.703 Feb.10/10 (Cat 10.x) Win7/Vista/XP (which i believe is based around 10.2 or later) fixes the issue  http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33959531 1
