Prophet4no1 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Woot Woot! I had my first successful mission on first pass! Second mission of the deployment campaign. The one where you bust the three bunkers and then help assault the village. Hovered about 7 kilometers away along the side of a hill. In a coordinated attack, myself and my wing man attacked all three targets in a few seconds. We then closed the gap and I lobbed all my rockets into the area that the tracers where concentrated taking out a few more soldiers. My wing man got a tad to close and was shot down by an AA gun. I got retribution by firing a few HE rounds into the AA emplacement. I then picked off the last few soldiers with the cannon until the FAC team said all was clear and I was free to go. Before leaving I flew over the village to inspect the damage up close and watch the attack team roll through. I banked right and made a 180 to head back. All of the sudden, to my surprise I heard these "tink tink, pop, tink" sounds. I look left and see a half dozen insurgents on the hill just below the cloud line firing on me! I rolling right into the valley to get some speed and distance, dropping flares in-case one of those guys has a shoulder launcher. I get about a 2 km gap before turning back and eliminating the threat with cannon fire. I take one more, closer look around before returning to the egress course and then RTB. Aside from a few scratches from small caliber rounds, I would say things went well. To bad my wing man did not make it. Sorry for blabbing this for those that could care less. I was just excited to do so well. Full realism with no tags. The way it's supposed to be done! 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Sabre-TLA Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Congrats! Yes I wish the wingmen wouldn't charge in after a target. I'm killing apcs from 6km away and when he is order to engage he flies up close and gets nailed by a SAM! MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
GGTharos Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Good job :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
EtherealN Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Good work, and one lesson learned: don't overfly a target area without thorough recon first. :) On the note of suicidal AI wingmen, I believe you can make them work "better" by assigning them an ingress point. (Refer to the datalink parts of the manual.) You can also detail them a bit more through locking a target and asking the wingman to "attack my target". Drawback of that of course is that you are then expending your own time and laser to get your wingman to work, but it does allow you some extra levels of control. Prophet4no1 Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 So, I did a pic/story for my gaming clan's site. They like looking at the pictures but only one other one likes to play these things. lol Enjoy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The situation, our forces are attacking a village in a valley and are pinned down by enemy fire. They request air support. Your two ship flight is tasked with providing that support. You are to take out the fortified bunkers and provide additional support to attacking forces. Good hunting! After a 15min flight I get to the combat area. The friendly units are just short of those trees, by the river. Time to locate those bunkers. As I spot the bunkers I pass off targets via data link to my wing man. I give the attack command and my wing man lets a Vikher loose. I fire next. Wing mans missile connects. Mine a second later Failing to destroy the target we each loose a second missile. Impact! This time the bunker begins to smolder and then explodes shortly after the hit. One bunker left. I fire two more missiles, no more bunker. Bunkers destroyed, our comrades move into the village. My wing moves in a bit to close to cover advancing forces and draws fire from an AAA battery in the middle of the village. Taking small arms fore now..... Left engine fire. Not looking good. More hits, lowering gear in an attempt to make an emergency landing. He finally crashed into the hillside next to the village. No ejection spotted, presumed dead. No time to morn, I still have comrades in this fight! With friendly forces moving into the village on the right, I let four salvos of rockets go on the left side taking out a few soldiers and softening the AA gun. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Prophet4no1 Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 The battle continues on the ground. The insurgents started using the AA gun to attack the armored vehicles entering the village. Time to take it out before they do any more damage. Rounds on target, and she is burning. Little clean up and we are done. Wiped out this threesome on top of a building. One took out a BTR with an RPG before I could get the shot off. We lost three armored vehicles and one helicopter in this attack. I hope it was worth the price payed in blood. Turning to RTB, I start to hear rounds hitting my aircraft, I look out the left side and see a small group of insurgents that watched the entire battle unfold below. Guess they wanted some revenge! Took a little damage. I roll out and drop flares, in hopes that if a SAM is launched, it will miss. Once safe, I turn and return fire taking out six more insurgents. Time to get my damaged bird home before some thing else happens. Made it back in one piece, sort of.... 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
enigma6584 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Great job! It is a hell of a fun sim isn't it.:pilotfly:

Prophet4no1 Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 Just did the following night mission. I had to fumble with the sub menues on the ABRIS. I got off the ground dumping flares since there was fighting all around. Just as I lifted off the pad motar shells started hitting all around. It was pretty crazy. Got away pulled into a hover and started playing with the abris trying to remember how to plot a waypoint. Not sure I did it exactly right but I managed to get a point at the Skala FRAP and followed the river valley all the way in, and had a couple surprise engagements. Now that I can confidently fly this beast I'm having way to much fun. It's like when I first got into flight sims about 15 years ago again! Only bad thing is the Mrs might kill me if I keep playing. lol [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
EtherealN Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Just get her hooked too. :P But make sure she has her own computer, in that case. I pulled that maneuver once to get rid of the complaints only to find myself being unable to touch my own computer since a certain someone was there playing HOMM3 all day. :D 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
Prophet4no1 Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 She plays a few games. She fires up my 360 and will do "practice fights" in Assasin's Creed 2. This is to overwelming for her and she finds it boring. It's funny that we are so differnet in a lot of ways. But, the same in more important ways. I think it helps keep us ballanced. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
astrospud Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Nice job, Prophet! I need some SP time too, I think. Spend most of my time in MP. My missus is currently playing facebook mini games, so I can play as much as want. :D yeah, I know. rubbing it in... 1 Rectum non bustus
zdXu Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Woot Woot! I had my first successful mission on first pass! Second mission of the deployment campaign. The one where you bust the three bunkers and then help assault the village. The second mission of the deployment campaign is here for me the escort-convoy-mission. Or is this wrong? 1
element1108 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 The second mission of the deployment campaign is here for me the escort-convoy-mission. Or is this wrong? You're right, maybe he means second combat mission. The first mission is more of a familiarization flight.
Prophet4no1 Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 Yeah, sorry, second combat mission. The fly around one is kinda forgetable. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
