hitman Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 been a while since my last computer i need an idea what i should get this time around. i have an hdtv 62" thats going to be my monitor. i dont want to go overboard like my last computer, just know that it will be my next simmer puter. my budget is about 1800 but im going to need some sort of a setup cockput that should be figured in...any ideas? i will be usin g an i7, just not sure which socket is ideal for me, but thinking 920 like last time, and maybe win7 ult...getting tired of this ps3. also need ideas on a setup for my x52 and rudder pedals for my front room.
Pilotasso Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 On 62", I think you have to go for 2 big GFX and the rest of the hardware capable of handling those 2 wild mustangs. :) I860, overclocked, a big air cooler (water gonna blaze past your budegt) and dont forget a rather high end MOBO and, PSU, and case...Its a roller coaster from here :D .
hitman Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 i did water last time...never again! my hdtv is at 1920x1050'ish ill just need a card with hdmi hookups.
Prophet4no1 Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Personally I love eVGA cards. I have an eVGA mobo and GTX260. You have a couple options. You can buy two cards and spend $400-500 or you can buy a GTX290 for the same. The GTX290 has two cards in one device and runs in SLI. If you have the jack, get two and run quad SLI! For the money, there is not much advantage to the i7 yet. I get simaler numbers, or even higher on 3Dmark on the CPU score side with my Q6600 at 2.69ghz. Once games start using the capabilities of the i& things will change. But for now it's a very large jump in price for minimal gain, for the most part. Although, good high performance LGA775 boards are getting hard to come by, so you may not have much choice. If you go i& make sure you get a X58 board. Single bridge setup that is a lott better than a normal N/S setup. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hitman Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 i deal almost exclusively with evga...as far as the chip goes im not straying from i7...it kicks ass when rendering movies.
Prophet4no1 Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 In that case, make sure you get an x58 board. eVGA has a fw options going that route. If you want a custom rig, one of the members of my gaming clan owns a custom PC buisness and uses eVGA and hand builds water systems. No premade kits. I can get you in touch with him and you can discuss details and budgets from there. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Haukka81 Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 5850 or 5870 is very,very good GPU now ;) -haukka81 Oculus CV1, Odyssey, Pimax 5k+ (i5 8400, 24gb ddr4 3000mhz, 1080Ti OC ) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
CAT_101st Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 what do you want in a cocpit? mine cost around 800 to build. I can do it for cheaper next time. so you need to give us an Idea for that part. Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. They work much better with AMD since they are the same company. I've owned both and currently run an intel/nvidia setup. I find it more stable and I like the nvidia control panel better than catalyst. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

PoleCat Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 http://www.roccafortesales.com/ I got me one of these. Works well. Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/
Prophet4no1 Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 http://www.roccafortesales.com/ I got me one of these. Works well. Out Not bad, but $300 is a bit steep for a desk you can build in a couple hours for maybe $50-100 with parts from Home Depot. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hitman Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 and its more than what i need too since im not mounting monitors. ill probably get me a gamers chair and rig it up to my taste.

Spend the cash and go eVGA. Rock solid with the best customer support if something goes wrong. I have yet to have and eVGA parts go bad. Knock on wood. Those I klnow that have, hard the replacement part in a couple days, no questiosn asked. Awesome company. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hitman Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 I just switched back to ATI. I went through 6 BFG 8800 GT's. Never going back to Nvidia here. i went w/ evga...had a bad card, sent it in for replacement, had a new one in 3 days...AFTER i told them i modded the old onw w/a water block. evga kicks ass.
Prophet4no1 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Yeah, eVGA even helped me figure out what was really going on with my computer when it stopped booting. Even after we figured out it was none of thier hardware that failed, the tech support guy stayed on the phone and helped me find the true cause, firmware failure on the hard drive. Most tech supports people would have left you at the point that their hardware checked out ok. eVGA has me for life. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Maximus_G Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 ... ill just need a card with hdmi hookups. i'm using TV as the only monitor in the system too, connected through DVI-HDMI adapter. Sound goes through this interface as well. One important note: as TV doesn't understand "sleep" mode (lamps don't go off when there's no signal), user is likely to turn it off manually every time he doesn't use it for a noticable period of time. And when i wake up my PC, i touch the mouse and push the "ON" button on my TV. That is enough in normal situation. I've been using Radeon 4850 for a while, liked it so much, but once upon a time i've routinely installed a fresh video driver, and after that update my card couldn't initialize video signal output after leaving sleep mode. Touch the mouse, push the button - nothing. I've found that in order to restore the signal, i had to pull the cable out and plug it back in. It looked like my Radeon couldn't restore its display connection. I had been trying different drivers and waited for the updates (as they're updated by ATI generally every month), but the problem didn't go. So, i made an upgrade to GTX260. The problem never happened again.

It's a stupidly simple desk to make. An acomplished garage worker should be able to make it in a couple hours. Longer if you paint of course. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
