I think its a fair assessment to compare the games, it has been nearly 4 years (5 if you count good ones) since the last Battlefield PC game. While they say BF3 is in development, this is the closest thing to compare to it. They have learned alot in the past, and this game certainly differs from BF2 in many major departments, but its still Battlefield. Every single BF game plays the same with similar ferociousness of the combat, yet are all different in settings and the little things that make em unique.

If the guys playing the beta could list their pros and cons of the game, it would be nice. The post holiday insanely awesome releases has me itching to buy so many games.... between MAG, Bioshock 2, Supreme Commander 2, Bad Company 2, Heavy Rain, and Mass Effect 2 its a pretty difficult choice.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

There is good old conquest mode. Each team starts at a given flag. The map has more scattered around. Objective, capture all the flags. You can hit them in any order. Depending on the map layout, there normally is not a flow direction really. Unless it's in a large valley. But even then you can take a choper and hit a flag midway or hit the farthest one. Really it's up to you. This is the standard mode in all BF games. Rush is a push style and is what you play in the beta. Basically one team attacks and the other team defend. Game ends when the defending team is pushed of the map or the attacking team runs out of respawn tickets. There is also a squad on squad mode I have read about. You will have four indapendant squads on the map. Each is there own team. The objective is the take out the other squads. I do not know much about this mode to be honest. Lastly there is supposed to be some vehicle capture mode. From what I gatehr there will be one tank or APC on the map and teams will fight over it. Winner is the one who can get it back to there base in one piece.

Ahh right, I was talking about the Single Player mode (offline). I play BF2 a fair bit, and do love the format of the game (Conquest).

Sounds like a whole lot of fun!

Too many cowboys. Not enough indians.

There's already hacks for this game. Online game = hacks. Just gonna happen.

Sort of: http://kotaku.com/5449928/dice-says-it-wont-profit-off-rented-servers-for-bfbc2

Personally, I don't think I'll be getting it. Spent way too many years in competition in BF42, BF:V, DC, AA2, Tribes2, etc Just kinda "done" on the whole shoebox shooter scene.

Played the demo... it was just another online shooter with the occasional tank that no one could be bothered killing because they were too busy with sniper rifles.

Just more of the same really.

Have you tried putting explosives on a building and then blow it up? While people was in it? :music_whistling:

I love those snipers - they make nice targets. I either order 120mm mortar on their position - makes some nice and safe kills or, - most fun in game - laugh at snipers hiding behind walls, buildings or vegetation: Jump in a tank, eliminate cover AND snipers.

After a quite a few games and a few hours of gameplay I am amazed at how different this game is on PS3 and PC. The weapons seem to actually work on PS3 when compared to PC. The action and the players are a tad slower but it still fits well into the gameplay. On PC every close quarter fight is generally finished by my trusty pistol. Game after game I recorded the most kills with that lone weapon.

Medics do seem to be a tad overpowered. Between their revive abilities, health kits, and weapons that carry the most ammo, they make assaulting/defending a cp rather difficult.

Could someone please, please, make a video with some plain action? Nothing fancy kills etc, just where you play from one end of the match the the other. Thank you.

360 for me as it's probably the last game that will keep it from becoming a door stopper for me. I was hoping Flashpoint would save it, but that was a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE disappointment.

Unless it has tracker IR, then I may get for pC. Tracker IR and battlefield would be fun.

no TIR, but that didn't stop my habits of occasionally turning my head right or left to try and see what was over there realizing moments later that it isn't supported.

Comparing this to flashpoint is a mistake

This is like a better version of MW2 (and a better version of that wouldn't be hard) whereas flashpoint dragon rising was an attempt (not a great one) to bring somewhat realistic military infantry 'simulation' to console.

I personally vote with my wallet and will buy more console titles that try and go down the route of Operation Flashpoint Dragon as opposed to just constantly re-hashing the usual console/counter strike style FPS that consistently keeps reappearing.

How many ****ing iterations of call of duty do people really want (and that's all this battlefield title is... mw2 with bits to please those that whinged about the pitfalls of mw2)? Aren't we bored of it yet?

I'm not comparing the style of gameplay, but more so the entertainment factor (of course that's subjective). I'm more receptive to tactical slow "strategic" shooters (ARMA etc). Bad Company 2 is advertising what it is going to accomplish. Dragon Rising failed miserably in this field advertising so much more than it delivered. (Repetitive, lame missions that didn't utilize nearly enough of the vehicles, weapons or the island). The MP is a total bust and a half (the co-op teather is VERY limiting and the inability to choose/customize weapons even after you've beaten the game is also lame from a "game" point of view). If only dragon rising would have been as tight as Flashpoint ELITE for original XBOX (mission editor etc) it would have probably opened the door to a number of people curious about tactical shooters. Unfortunately they dropped the ball and pissed off a lot of console users in the process (as well as PC users <-- clearly a console port to PC).

As long as these "fast shoot em ups" keep making hordes of money they will continue to develope. With Medal of Honor jumping back into the fray you can be sure that cash cow has far from expired. I've actually always liked Battlefield series (original and bad company) better than COD because of the larger maps and vehicles etc.

Ok yeah, it does what it advertises... but that doesn't make it amazing; it just makes it another generic FPS.

Yeah, dragon rising was disappointing... but honestly, the coop multiplayer was the best feature of the game. It was totally enjoyable in that mode and a bit tedious in single player (i never bothered with any other MP modes).

I guess i just don't get the excitement anymore. I even pre-ordered MW2, so i'm not a FPS or COD or whatever hater... it's just how many variations on a theme can you have?

That's what it boils down too for me; i simply can't understand the overwhelming excitement for something you've basically seen several times before.
