ED, I have one small and very simple request

Some of the English in the campaign briefings and mission briefings is really bad.

 

Some of it actually does not make sense.

 

Please get someone who's first language is English to proof read the mission briefings for FC 2.0...As the ones in 1.1 look really unprofessional, it just looks bad.

 

Ill do it if you want, proof reading and correcting all of the mission breifings from FC would not take more than 2, 3 hours work maximum I imagine, so it's a pretty small cost...

Yeah GhostDog, very funny, I did notice that, but thought I would let it slide. (Corrected).

 

steve: I care, and ED should care. It looks glaringly unprofessional.

 

It's like my Tai Chi teacher who's second language is English, he put out these emails and presentations that are terribly worded for his business. I have offered to correct them for him, but he takes offence.

Some second language speakers do not realise the repercussions and the impression that this makes - it looks really bad...

Sorry, but I disagree. In an ideal world, the English translation would be perfect. And the Spanish, and the German, and the French, and the Italian, and..........

 

However, if you EVER want to see anything new released then you simply have to accept that ED must use their available resources as best they can and prioritise man hours accordingly.

 

Releasing a stable product is their priority as that will start recouping their already over budget development costs, (see Wags post on the price increase). This is perfectly understandable as they have wages to pay.

 

Crossing every "T" and dotting every "I" is simply not a priority and is something that a tiny patch could fix down the line.

 

I suggest you play Silent Hunter 5 for a while to see what happens when developers have these decisions taken away from them and are forced to release games early. Buggy, poor documentation, incomplete AND with bad translations.

 

As a native English speaker and a former teacher, part of me twitches, (and I long for a red pen), every time I see an incorrect grammatical or punctuation error, however, if I stopped and pointed out these errors to everyone I met I would pretty quickly end up with no one to speak with.

 

In any case, it's the little differences in life that make it interesting.

No, I am not nit picking here, there are a few small errors that can be overlooked, but as I mentioned before, some of the briefings are almost incomprehensible! I am not just talking about small grammatical errors.

 

It is not something that would need a lot of resources dedicated to it. As I said before, I could imagine that to proof read all of the campaign mission briefings would take around 2-3 hours, no more than one day's work maximum, hardly something that is going to cause the product to be released early in a buggy state.

 

I will post my favourite example at the bottom.

Ok, so here is a good example:

 

The Crimea actually turned into the territory almost fully controlled by NATO joined tropes which have their aviation bases here. In Sevastopol and Feodosiya ports NATO ships are based. Fighter aviation keeps continuous air loitering of the Crimea. Despite political events in the Ukraine, the Crimea republic became a citadel of the Ukrainian national forces, the most powerful divisions of the nationalist forces including Air Force are deployed on the peninsula. They are all ready to support NATO troops and have for a long time wanted to unleash a blitzkrieg against Russia.

Active increase of military forces near the Russian Federation borders became the main factor for adequate actions form Russia. NATO troops do not hope for a successful operation of ground forces at Kuban but following their doctrine of air war they are ready to destroy the whole Krasnodar region by air blows. Only the presence of large units of our armies and Black sea fleet ships restrain NATO from divestiture of the Black sea from Russia. At Krymsk, Anapa and Krasnodar aviation bases significant forces of fighter aviation, attack aircraft and front-line bombers and strategic aviation aircraft are concentrated. They can not only efficiently withstand possible enemy's aggression but they also enable to perform large-scale offensive operations at the theatre of military actions.

Recently the situation in the near-border region has become extremely heated. Our fighter loitering the air space along the Kerch strait was hit by "Hawk" SAM. American strategic bombers B-1B and B-52H were redeployed at Belbek and Simferopol aviation bases.

 

Comrades! You are to loiter the air space along the Kerch strait. As you know, recently NATO troops have been entertaining themselves by imitating our fighters' attacks and provoking the pilots' adequate actions. During your loitering in the air there will be a couple of Belgian F-16 from Kerch. Don't be drawn by the Belgian acts of provocation. I would like to remind you that you can attack the enemy only in case you are sure that your missile will hit him in our air space if there is no different order from the ground. You can also attack the enemy without the order from the ground if ECM found out the missile launch. Until this moment the attack without the order from the ground is prohibited.

Performing loitering try not to leave the zone limits marked by points 1 and 2. Go to the point at 15:40.

 

The air space over the strait is in the effective area of "Hawk" SAM positioned near Kerch. Along the coastal line there are plenty man-portable SAMs positions.

 

Your weapons: four R-77 missiles and two R-73 missiles. Therefore in case of you have to deal with F-16 you will have advantage over it thanks to R-77 application.

 

You are to land at Krymsk aviation base. The emergency airport is Anapa.

 

In case of combat collision with the enemy's fighters try to retreat far back to your territory, already 30 km east of the strait the enemy will get into the effective area of our "Buk" SAM. When you close to the coastal line of Kerch peninsula at low altitudes fire the flares - the danger of being hit by a man-portable SAM is very high in this area. In case you have to eject you are to get to your territory to land exactly on our side of the strait. If you eject of the Crimean territory you will entail new war and political complications.

If they pay for that work, the translation is good, if they search for people of comunity for free work, this happens.

At least its not as bad as Heavy Rain where the french actors grasp of the English language isn't the best and writing used the word "wasteland" to replace anytime they mentioned a place outside of the city.
