I don't mean to poke holes in your "proof," but... if you add in the rest of the name and take out the specific F/A, etc. part...

Just sayin'... That might not be the best "proof" for your argument.

Personally, I like the Hawg, and I like the Eagle and Falcon, but, I like the Hornet too. I think they are just as cool and will be pleased with any of them. Or even if it's none of these, I'll still be a happy camper. (If they make something, of course. If it's none of these and nothing else either, I'll be sad. Very, very sad.)

Hey listen!

I have important news regarding the next DCS module. When looking through the comments on this video

I found none other than THE Matt Wagner posting the following comment

"Very nice. Will it model TFR/GM/RB radar modes, Pace Tack pod, and weapon systems?"

I find this to be definitive proof that the next module is the F-111.

American, check

Fighter, ehh, close enough

fixed wing, almost?

See, it all makes sense now. There were so many signs, I can't believe I never noticed before.

I see you have a common thread in your favorite aircraft, both made by Lockheed Martins Great Engineer and Head Honcho of ,"Skunk Works" Kelly Johnson.

I did not know that Phantom88. Thats pretty cool to know.

Why??? Even a train-simulator must be more interesting than flying straight and level for hours with that thing.

Why the hell are so many asking for aircraft that could easily be done in the FSX environment?

Guys, we're here to blow stuff up and shoot things down! Not to take photos at 3 times the speed of sound... :music_whistling:

Israeli jets have fairly cramped airspace for example. :)

Haha, our EFs that are stationed in Zeltweg are almost over Vienna once they go supersonic on an intercept mission, which means they are already with one foot in Hungarian or Slovak airspace. :D

intercepting some stray airbus :) and actually if they fly in a row they will cover all of your airspace maybe :P Btw, couldn't you just do with 10 Gripen or used F-16 ?

Oh lord don't get me started about that deal, all the members of the administration (i kid you not, everyone comes to mind) during which the aquisition happened have been charged with some sort of corruption or nepotism by now.

Besides, the tranches that we got were so early that they don't have any of the features that would really set them apart from, say, the Viper (apart from flight characteristics, of course).

Nah, mostly NATO flights that cross our airspace without permission. :D

We sold you the block 2B jets we didn't want, as we'd only have had to pay to upgrade them to block 5/8 as soon as we got them.

Don't say that, some people (even in austria;)) made a great deal of money in the process. :) The legality of said actions is still the matter of discussion, but who cares about such details? :P

The lobbyist for BAE Systems, Mensdorff-Pouilly, still faces pretty serious allegations of bribery.

it appears German companies have this tendency and somehow the means too .... Spreading, encouraging or making maximum use of local, corruption all-over the globe to manage deals for their products . And to not forget it was G that skyrocketed the cost of EF and stalled its progress for years when in the middle of the process they got (typically) indecisive, contemplative, speculating and sabotaged the whole project making it commercially the semi-failure it is today dragging everyone investing money and job positions in it to lose both

The austrian example its eye popping. A sureal situation of a handful of high performance jets so striped down not able to even launch (or equiped with) amraams. read somewhere about their availability being smth like 50% and the response of an officer explaining that what they really need is about 7 QRA worthy fighters so availability is ok .....

Sadly not a surprise that it happens. I tend to explain that type of thing to my mom with a simple fact:

The plants that hire me usually have a facility value that is roughly equal to a single fighter-jet, sometimes two... The amount of money involved is just so huge that you don't have to shave off much in bribes to still test the morals of even the greatest idealists.

You should have gone for the Gripen though. Not because it's necessarily the best, but just because it's Swedish! I give myself an allowance of nationalism in two cases only: jets and Starcraft. :D

Gripen deserves to be powered by an improved version of EJ2000 :D (or F414, or F-110-GE-132)

Where do you think the new ones came from? You might have received them 'unused' but they weren't made especially for Austria, I can tell you that. They will be jets that would otherwise have gone to the UK/Germany/Italy/Spain. Just like the jets going to the Saudi's, they would originally have been destined for us.

And there are plenty of Tranche 1 jets still in use, in fact every jet that we used in Libya was Tranche 1. Tranche 1 includes Block 1, 2, 2B and 5 standards. Tranche 2 are block 8.

It's the Block and build standard that matter, not the Tranche. Tranche 1 block 5 jets can still do more than Tranche 2 block 8 jets.

Made in Manching, rolled out there, as you know. My answer was on the "we sold you that" comment, so in this case, it can be either, Italy, German or Spain Typhoons as you say.....:)

There was a back and forward to get Tranch 1 first or Tranch 2 right away, but finally we got and keep Tranch 1 B5, and this eats our hairs from the heads....;)

Too long waiting times on spare parts, plus the price is soo high on the parts. 15 jets we got, two ofthem are used as spare parts for the rest already.

70 percent of our CAP`s if you like are done by our old Saab 105 oe, just for the reason as above...

EDIT: Did a quick call, so, the six used ones, are been ex Germans, the rest, the new ones, are been brand new German T1, finally we got the German T1`s, and Germany, got T2`s instead.

Funny you say that, it was 1998, myself and 50 other soldiers celebrating the bright future with SAAB and Austria. That means, we should have got the Gripen, our Dragon pilots, some of them, moved to Sweden to get the hands on the Viggen, that our step to the Gripen is not that big.

Couple years later, nobody was interrested in the Gripen anymore, the lobby for the EF`s are been just too strong, and some good money got swifted to some kind of persons.

Dont get me rong, I would like to see 25 Gripen (was the plan), fully loaded, instead of the 15 EF`s , with the minimum avionic, its a joke...

Well, to be fair, Gripen has some serious issues in it's design that I have to invoke nationalism to get over. :P But for value... yeah, it's pretty good, and for a small country it's pretty good economy as well.

Surprisingly easy to fly, as well, if the milsims are anything to go by. :)

Oh we have more than two christmas trees. A couple of Blk 8 jets took off from Warton, landed here and Coningsby and went directly into the hangar to be stripped for spares and they haven't flown since.

It's outragous, but sadly what happens when the civillian bean counters don't give you enough money to buy spares and then try and solve the problem by throwing money at BAe in the form of 'support' contract rather than just letting us do what has worked perfectly for decades.

It's the usual government 'spend pounds to save pennies' mindset.

Hahah, yeah Eddie, I giggle in a sort of painful display of "I have to laugh lest I cry" whenever I look at the amount of Gripens we bought compared to what is actually used... ...
