WhiskeyRomeo Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 For those that haven't checked the Download sections lately: Makes backing up the right registry key for LockOn super easy. When you use the Lockon_Save_Registry program it will auto-save a new lockon_sf_keys_todays-date.reg file. So when you click on the lockon_sf_keys_.reg file you'll get a Registry Editor key restore notice as in the example above. Nice Touch - Thanks ED! 2
schimmel Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Aaaahh... again a nice move ED! Damn I'm dying here. Can't wait to get my copy at simw.
Force_Feedback Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 So this means that you won't have to spend activations when updating hardware/reinstalling something? Sorry, the description is a bit vague on lockon.ru. Man, tomorrow MAY be the day, maybe not. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
schimmel Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 So this means that you won't have to spend activations when updating hardware/reinstalling something? Sorry, the description is a bit vague on lockon.ru. Nope... the key in the registry is based on your hardware. So it will not work after a major hardware change/upgrade. It will work on the same config.
Force_Feedback Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 I often remove/add some game controllers, will that affect the hardware key? And is it true that we can buy the download again tomorrow (wednesday)? Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
Dmut Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 As I understand, this utility works fine when you reinstalling FC. It will save you an activation in this case. But if you have changed 40% of hardware, then, most probably, you'll have to spend one of your activations. Hughjeres Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Bear in mind 1 hardware component >=40%. I think they screwed up the maths on that one. What constitutes what in terms of percentages? i.e. Processor = 50%, graphics card = 80% etc Why don't they just check the Mac address anyway if they're looking to see if the same copy has appeared on another machine; it's as good as a PC fingerprint and in this day and age (particularly if you're running 1.1) then you're machine has got to have one, about 90% of motherboards have them built in anyway. (is that a genuine statistic or a Starforce elastic one?) Seriously, 1 processor changed and I have the motherboard (obviously part of the equation) The CPU (most definately more than 40% of my hardware apparently, without doubt, allegedly, most likely, catagorically, without question) 3 hard ones and a floppy one (drives), 3 CD/DVDRom devices, 1 soundcard, a USB card, a graphics card, a USB modem, endless permanently connected peripherals etc like my printer, monitor, speakers (all clearly listed in device manager and surely part of the big equation) but somehow I managed to change more than 40% of my hardware?? Actually I went from 2GHz to 2.8 so it's not even a 40% performance jump. Why am I so bothered? Well it doesn't work anymore and I can't activate it. Why? Because I sold the other CPU and I didn't copy the key to anywhere. Why not? Because I didn't anticipate not being able to get my key from ED. You mean you can't? I don't know, they're too busy trying to sell this to you to care about the copy they already sold to me that I can't use anymore. Surely I knew about all the problems though? Actually no, I've been playing the damn game not coming here to talk about it so the first I know of all the trouble is (like most people) when it comes and kicks me in the nads. Do I always answer my own questions like this? Usually, well here anyway. ;) I'm going for some more drugs, you drove me to it ED. :(

This forum is blessed again to see another copy protection expert! Bravisimo! Do you know that MAC address is freely changeable? No matter is it internal NIC on motherboard or usual PCI card, you can change it in 5 sec. Hughjeres Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 That's the only part of my post that concerns you? It comes as no suprise. I contacted support to tell them I could no longer access the download page to get the Key, here is their reply: Hello, So now you can't access the Star Force activation page for recieve the new activation key? Right? If it is than we can do this: Use the attached FAQ, in item #5.7 is about such case. Good luck Tuseyev Daniel ED lead tester Which directs me to manual activation. Without the key not much use actually, great protection system. Secondly my friend, making bold 'I'm a moderator' statements without backing them up doesn't fool people for long. I'm glad that people are seeing how genuine customers are treated.
Dmut Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 So, how exactly wrong I treated you, my friend? =) you can't search forums? or you can't read FAQ on site? Welcome to club. Share you problems with us, tell us the story about brutal bold moderator who hurting you and fooling people around. And then we all say "Thank you, Hughjeres" and you'll feel better. ps: and stay away from drugs. Harven Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I'm just confused on this whole activation thing... how do you get more? I reformated the other day, so there's another activation.. then I had to reinstall FC after screwing with it (ahaha) ... so are you saying.. If I had to reinstall it a few times and run out of activations.. I can't play a game I payed for on my computer? .. I may die on my motorcycle too.. so maybe I should stop thinking about it.
