JG-1_Vogel Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 I've not got FC2 yet, can't afford it :(... which is a real pain! Anyway, I'm using an E6600 Core 2 Duo chip... does FC2 now use multiple cores by default? Or do you have to use a CPU affinity thing like in BS? On a slightly different topic, whats the Su-25 flight model like now? Did they change it much? Lonewolf :pilotfly:

EtherealN Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 One addisional note - FC2 also has the new sound engine, which is threaded. So sound routines that would previous compete for system resources with the graphics and simulation engines will now happily move itself over to another core. This might actually work even on XP since it is natively threaded and not an effect of Dx10/11 driver/OS combinations - but I haven't verified that. Fahhh Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Well, I experimented a bit, and I found that both of my two cores were utilized while playing online. I mean both cores were working at 70-80%. This is on Win7 x64 with an old AMD Athlon X2 @ 3Ghz. The game runs smooth, so I'm quite happy with what I got :)
JG-1_Vogel Posted April 4, 2010 Author Posted April 4, 2010 Hey guys, I'm running XP Pro SP3 at the moment. No money to upgrade! Does this mean I need to use third party software? Or will XP just not let it use both cores end of?

Wolf Rider Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 (edited) Just installed... smooth, with no hiccups.:) just had to sort out (default) stick assignments, by deleting doubled up entries and all is well. I run a quadcore 9650 on a DX48BT2/ Windows 7 64bit/ nVidia 285 + 9600GT and found setting the Affinity_Mask to use cores 1, 2 and 3 works a treat, just like with BlackShark. Great job guys, thank you  Edited April 4, 2010 by Wolf Rider City Hall is easier to fight, than a boys' club - an observation :P "Resort is had to ridicule only when reason is against us." - Jefferson "Give a group of potheads a bunch of weed and nothing to smoke out of, and they'll quickly turn into engineers... its simply amazing." Great job guys, thank you  You don't need to set affinity manually anymore in DCS (since patch 1.01) and FC2, it will take all cores by default. No need to leave core 0 without load, imho, except perhaps if you use Win XP, in that case best suggestion is move to Vista/W7. Wolf Rider Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 true, but I find the sim runs better, smoother, setting (autoexec.cfg) cores 1, 2 and 3... leaving core 0 for the OpSys (at least on my rig) City Hall is easier to fight, than a boys' club - an observation :P "Resort is had to ridicule only when reason is against us." - Jefferson "Give a group of potheads a bunch of weed and nothing to smoke out of, and they'll quickly turn into engineers... its simply amazing." Kula66 Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I play on my dual core laptop and seem to get significantly better performance that FC1 ... I would guess it is off-loading more to my GPU - which gets much hotter under FC2 than 1!
JG-1_Vogel Posted April 4, 2010 Author Posted April 4, 2010 Thanks for the replies guys, can't wait to get my hands on the new Su-25 model :). Are the key combo's the same in the options menu as they were in FC1? I was just wondering if I need to adjust my Cougar profile in Foxy!

Are the key combo's the same in the options menu as they were in FC1? I was just wondering if I need to adjust my Cougar profile in Foxy! Its is very similar ... just different enough to be a pain. However, given that configuring my Cougar initially took weeks of effort to get it just right, the move from FC1 to FC2 hasn't been too bad.

JG-1_Vogel Posted April 4, 2010 Author Posted April 4, 2010 After some flying i must confirm this too...I feel like frogfoot's AFM is little bit simplified and not so challenging anymore... Simplified? Or more realistic? The frog was always a handful, even for more competent pilots? After hundreds of hours flying it I have no problems with it, but I'm curious as to how they changed the FM. I hope its not been "nerfed" too much. Does the Su-25 feel nicer with a linear axis set up? For me it was always very "twitchy" when trying to line up a gun shot etc compared to the Su-25T which was very stable. So never been perfectly sure if I should use a curved axis or a linear one for it.
