Ramstein Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Why are people not happy with the sounds? The only thing I am wondering is how to get the sound a touch higher in the cockpit of some aircraft. Other than that, the sound is nice. I mostly wear a headset. Maybe there are some with some really extenisive sound systems with surround sound or some other that I never heard... I really don't know. But I think the sound is outstanding. What am I missing? btw, I don't want the sounds to give me a headache.. and if they were like real and loud, I would mostly get a headache from the sounds of all the aircraft.. I am talking both Black Shark and LO:FC 2.0 IMHO ASUS Strix Z790-H, i9-13900, WartHog HOTAS and MFG Crosswind G.Skill 64 GB Ram, 2TB SSD EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080-TI (trying to hang on for a bit longer) 55" Sony OLED TV, Oculus VR
slug88 Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 There are a couple of problems with sound in Black Shark 1.01. First and foremost is the outside sound bug, which happens when you first start the game, the sound you hear inside the cockpit is what's supposed to be the sound from the outside; in other words, it's loud as hell. This is correctable by toggling external views (F2), which restores the inside sound to it's proper attenuated level. Secondly, you often hears things from inside the cockpit that you shouldn't, such as the burning noise when you fly by a fire (afaik, shouldn't be audible over the engine and rotor noise from inside the cockpit), the impacts of low caliber shells on the ground near you (again, definately shouldn't be audible from the cockpit), and things of that nature. Basically, too much sound from the outside world is audible from the inside of the helicopter. Of course, this is all the opinion of someone who's never been in a helicopter his whole life, and I would welcome being corrected by someone with contrary experience. As far as the sound in FC2, as far as I'm concerned it's just about perfect. High frequency sounds are attenuated within the cockpit, while the bassy low frequency rumble of large explosions can be heard (sometimes more like felt) from hundreds of meters away. Some have complained that engine and mechanical sounds (flaps, gear) are too quiet in FC2, which is an opinion that I understand, but do not share. In short I really can't wait for this new sound engine to make it's way to DCS :D. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Napa Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I don't have any problem with sounds. I'm using a headset all the time. I'm guessing those who have sound issues are using Dual Core CPUs. I'm using an i7, I have all settings to maximum in options and I can hear all sounds perfectly clear in and out of the cockpit. Booger Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 If I read slug's post right, it's not really problems with sounds. Well, one (the outside bug), but the rest are more "cosmetic".
Pyroflash Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) @Ramstein: The sounds don't so much give you a headache as they do slowly kill your hearing over time. For me at least, headaches are only caused when the sound is very short, loud, and in fairly rapid succession (such as in gunfire or explosions). My experience in civil aviation has been mostly headache free (well with the sounds anyway...). Of course I only actually tried flying without a headset once, and that is a mistake that I will never repeat. @Slug88: You are right in the part that you should not be able to hear many soft/ambient noises inside the cockpit of an aircraft. The noise an aircraft puts out plus the likelihood of the operator wearing a noise reducing headset, makes hearing most things almost impossible. And while most sounds get drowned out, there are a few that still get by; though these are mostly very harsh loud noises such as gunfire (should have seen me when I heard this one time right after I took off...), other aircraft as they pass by, and other exceptionally loud noises of which fire sometimes fits into. Also if my passenger yells loud enough, I can sometimes her him/her through all the noise and my headset (which if anyone cares, happens to be a David Clark H10-13.4). The only problem I actually have with the sounds in DCS are the initial engine start sounds. The sound the first engine makes when it first starts up seems a little high pitched and whiny. Though I admit I don't have any flying time in a KA-50, so I wouldn't know what exactly the engines sound like when they do start up. Frederf Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 My only complaint of the sounds in DCS is the bug where it sounds like your head is between the exhaust nozzles of the Fulcrum 10km away or inside the fuel pump in the fuel truck at the FARP or strapped to your air inlet... yeah the outside sound bug. The voice acting isn't stellar too I guess.
Xjikz Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I think the "sound bug" only applies to Windows Vista and Seven because the "code" of the game to generate the sound is not "reconized" 100% by these versions of Windows. So it doesn't matter which processor you have, it's about the operating system. From my own experience, with Exactly the same computer, I used to have the sound bug with Vista and Seven so I made step backwards to Windows XP. Now FC2 has updated sound engine and problem is sorted out, and BS should get the same update in a future patch. Proud to be a [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] :joystick::pilotfly::book:

I'm using Vista as well (64bit) and have an i7 920 as well. I don't have any sound issues either in DCS or FC2.0. Is this a bug I'm experiencing??? Xjikz Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Sometimes the driver of soundcard is making the emulation of the code so you won't have the bug, specially if your soundcard is not on the motherboard. If you reduce engines volume in the settings (and some others I don't remember) you can't really hear what is the sound bug. We should wait for some guys with more knowledge on this problem to explain it. Proud to be a [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] :joystick::pilotfly::book:
connos Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 The sound engine has problems as ED admit it and promise to fixed it. Its probably that some users don't notice the problem. Also the switch from inside to outside with f2 sometimes totally corrupt some sounds especially communication with wingman. Maybe this doen't break other sounds? Nevermind, those problems are about to be a thing of the past. :) Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Frederf Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I've had the problem on both WinXP and Win7. The door cycle or inside-outside view cycle works... sometimes.
Slayer Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 BS is supposedly getting the new sound system from FC 2 in a patch.
