Changed My Mind about Battlefield BC2 and COD Modern Warfare 2

I dismissed both games as "arcade" and, therefore, not worthy of my money and time. I was wrong. Yes, both games are arcade action, but no more than R6 Vegas 1 and 2. Yet, somehow, both are fun, at least in single-player.

Understand, I'm a Tom Clancy, slower, TACTICAL, classic Rainbow Six/Rogue Spear/Ghost Recon type gamer. The run 'n gun stuff usually bores me to tears because there tends to be very little thinking and an overdose of heavily scripted action. I hate scripted. I don't like not having squad control, setting waypoints, etc. I actually enjoy PLANNING. And MP was always so much better in a Clancy/Red Storm tactical shooter than run 'n gun MP. Those shooters are the best because of excellence in both single player AND multi-player, instead just one or the other being good. I"m not a big MP gamer unless it's a classic Clancy shooter.

Anyway, I've actually found the single player MW2 and BFBC2 to be kinda fun. It took me a long time to acquire these games because I was initially suspicious given their run 'n gun reputations. I play each one in about half-hour sessions, every other day. They seem to be very long (for me) and some of the amazing stuff that happens in each one (tanks, helicopters, buildings crumbling, stuff blowing up, etc.) adds to the overall atmosphere. Multi-player is another story. MW2 is straight arcade action in MP and boring as hell. BFBC2 is better in MP, not quite as run 'n gun.

I'll stick with the single player for as long as it lasts with both games.

MW1 single player missions were quite cool although I think Arma is the best FPS I've used and still use especially with ACEmod.(realism beyond Tom Clancy FPs)

BFBC2 is great fun multiplayer; bigger maps, not run and gun like MW2

MW2 failed on too many fronts for me to enjoy for long, is BFBC2 is the winner for me

I'm actually enjoying the single-player of MW2 just as much as BFBC2. The graphics are definitely better. I'm running both at 19 x 12 and 8 x anistropic. BFBC2 looks great; but MW2 looks amazing. I'm geting frames way over 100 on BFBC2, not quite as high with MW2. But I can't stand MW2 multi; it plays like a console game.

I don't like ARMA. The single-player game sucks. I don't like the multi-player either. I don't like taking "orders" from some person I don't even know and be told what to do and when to do it, competing for a place on some platoon totem pole, or being confined to a particular "role." Screw that. I have both ARMA 1 and ARMA2. I don't play either of them. I actually find Op Flash: Dragon Rising more enjoyable than the ARMA games. Again, I'm talking single-player mode. MP in OFDR also sucks. A bunch of tin-horn dictators who think they are real platoon leaders telling you to "go here" and "watch the woods over there," and "don't leave your post!" Screw that.

LMAO who the hell have you been playing that with, obviously not the same people I play Arma with. BTW I've beaten every SP mission in both Arma and QG they are not too bad although mods like ACEmod and CWR to add some fun to the sim. Not all missions are class restricted so I'm not quite sure what you are getting at with that or is it another MP Squad thing.

Diametrically opposed to my ARMA2 experience. I'm also a long-time fan of Tom Clancy games, however the last ones were bad. I played MW a lot for the fun and fast action. But actually the best tactical shooter it is ARMA2 hands down. I'm not much of a clan guy, so I stick to pub servers. Even then, with teamspeak, track-ir and good missions, it is a blast.

ArmA2 is what ya make of it. In the NoAssholes server, we cater to the casual gamer rather thant he structured heiarchy.

As far as BD2, tried it. Looked like I'd get maybe 3-4 months out of it and then I'd be bored with it. $50 for 3-4 months just doesn't do it for me lol!

I can't help but feel BC2 would be better if it had a hardcore mode. As it is it feels as if both the army got conned and bought a whole bunch of air soft guns, then told their soldiers to make do. Emptying a whole clip into someone just to see them run off is quiet a massive turn off for me. Plus EA's practice of giving ridiculously overpowered guns as unlocks is in full swing. (they did seem to invent the practice). I'm not totally against unlocks, but the disparity between the stuff you get in the beginning and the higher level guns makes the game frustrating at times. Also, Whoever had the bright idea to give the medic (the only class that can give health or revive) the most powerful guns in the game deserves a 9mm frontal lobotomy administered by a faltering 90 year old woman. I only own MW2 for the 360. I like it, Its mindless fun with friends, nuff said.

ARMA2 can blow your mind if you find the right group to simulate current RL scenarios.

ArmA 2 with ACE mod is really something to behold, especially if you are looking for a superb infantry and combined arms combat simulation.

If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.

BFBC2 is NOT run and gun?????? that's all it is!

Sure it is... as long as you want to get to a capture point or MCOM and die a lonely death.

If you can sprint around, shoot from the hip quickly and get kills like in MW2, then i stand corrected. As far as i've seen, it's not like that at all and when i've tried to play it like MW2 all i do is die... a lot.

BTW BFBC2 *does* have a hardcore mode, when you select 'quick match' it's one of the 3 options. Funnily enough it's labelled 'hardcore' :megalol:
