G'day - probably stupid question, but how should I handle my AI wingmen who are in formation with me when I'm planning to land at a base?

In the first SU-25 mission of the FC2 Revanche campaign, your flight is relocated to a new airfield. As I approached the new field, I realised I didn't know what orders to give my 3 wingies to get them to enter the pattern and land and more importantly not crash into me when I enter the circuit.

Should I put them in trail, or give an RTB order (does this work for a mission where you are transiting from one base to another - is the "base" at the end of the flight plan or the beginning?) or just do my own thing and they will also land at the field?

thanks for any advice.

It's not a dumb question. I'm wondering the same.

Haven't really played FC2 much yet, but I've seen the wingman do some strange stuff from time to time in Lock On and FC1. The few flights I've done in FC2 I havent given my wingman any orders and seems to be fine. I always try and make an Inbound call and assume the Wingman then either follows me in formation or that he gets a seperation from tower?

You can land in pairs. When you'r approaching the airfield second pair will raise gear, disengage formation and do a turn to land after you. No need to tell them specifically, it's somewhat automatic, tho yes, some times weird things happen.

I've noticed that as long as I line up on the left side of the runway (and not right in the middle) I can get the wingman to attempt to land with me without giving any specific commands.

The problem is that each time I get him to line up with me, he crashes into the ground just shy of the runway.

What I really wish... and I don't think you can do this that I know of... is to take off in pairs or formation with AI wingman. I alway find myself slowing down after take off for 3 of my wingmen to catch up.

As for landing, I had two of them crash right behind me just short of the runway when I didn't give them orders once so I tell them to RTB way ahead of landing approach. Problem with this however is that they seem to get there before me and I'm ordered to circle around. I usually ignore the tower tho.

Yeah, in my experience, you have to tell them to RTB.

I wish they would just stay on your wing, a number of times I have tried this, and they dont seem to realise that they are landing, so they allow themselves to hit stalling speed and always crash into the ground.

I have never tried trail formation as suggested above though.

You can if you set in the editor "take off from runway".

I find it quite easy to get my wingman to land beside me. Just make sure you line up to the left of the runway on approach and they will move up next to you (whatever formation they were in before) and land at the same time. Number 3 and 4 will peel off and land on their own.

Or from taxiway, same deal if you wait for them.

Actually I think I am wrong, I take it back.

I can't this way, even if I'm left in the runway he just stops at short, doesen't continue into the runway.

Perhaps I have to be at the right side of the runway instead of left? gonna try...
