ericinexile Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Looks like v5.09 of the Logitech Profiler is coming soon. Let's hope so anyway... CharlesB Logi Product TeamPosts: 2,605 geo111 - I explained in PM why we have the 3 device behavior, but I'll explain again publicly: See, we designed it as 3 unique devices to get around the Windows DirectInput limitations on analog axes. Windows can only detect so many analog inputs per device, and the original spec followed this logic: Without Logitech Gaming Software installed, the firmware of the device would self-reduce the number of analog axes so that it would not throw DirectInput for a loop. We believed some people would prefer to run the joystick without the software AND allow for advanced, driver-free troubleshooting if the need arrived. This way the device could work in any situation we threw at it. We fretted for a while over which axes would stay live and which would self disable in the event of no drivers, and we couldn't reach a good consensus. That's when the idea to have it identify as 3 seperate devices came into play, and it seemed like the best solution, because it not only allowed the highest compatibility with Windows, but allowed also for maximum tweakability for endusers who want to do unconventional things. There's talk of a soft-combine in a later version, but I'm not sure of the status of that (we're working on all of the other, less-work-aroundable issues). (UPDATE: It's on the wish list, but due to the massive rewrite that would have to take place, it will not happen in 5.09) Cahuete - Most of 5.09 are bug fixes, though for example, we have taken steps to work around implementation of force feedback and centering spring force in 3rd party games. We've also improved how the G940 manages itself across several profiles, removed certain functionality bugs and a BSOD, and (this is a new announcement) we'll be unlocking more capabilities of the device. I'll be able to share specifics on this within the week. I can also confirm that 5.09 is already available to some developers for them to give us last-minute feedback Smokin' Hole My DCS wish list: Su25, Su30, Mi24, AH1, F/A-18C, Afghanistan ...and frankly, the flight sim world should stop at 1995.
mikey Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I didn't expect them to come with new features considering they're working on a totally new game software package, but let's hope they're decreasing ffb slop and perhaps a "moveable deadzone" so our sticks are not that sensitive anymore in a trimmed position. I've got 99 problems but my Ekran ain't one
joey45 Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I like the last bit.... The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. sobek Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Now i hope they will fix the spiking issue in the throttle, if that gets fixed too, i'm all game (again :)) Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
bartleby Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I didn't expect them to come with new features considering they're working on a totally new game software package, but let's hope they're decreasing ffb slop and perhaps a "moveable deadzone" so our sticks are not that sensitive anymore in a trimmed position. I recently got both a 940 and BS, and it seems that trim works properly for me: i.e., the deadzone moves to the stick position when trim is pressed. Have you tried running BS with the profiler off? That seems to work for me. Slop is still a bit of an issue, however. DCS Wiki! :book:
mikey Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 (edited) I can't seem to be able to replicate that behaviour when I disable the profiler. edit: I even uninstalled it, rebooted, and still no dice with a deadzone set in dcs. Edited April 18, 2010 by mikey I've got 99 problems but my Ekran ain't one
bartleby Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I can't seem to be able to replicate that behaviour when I disable the profiler. edit: I even uninstalled it, rebooted, and still no dice with a deadzone set in dcs. Hm. It seems that it doesn't actually depend on the profiler being on or off, now that I mention it. An obvious question, but did you turn of "central trim" (or whatever it's called exactly) in the options? 1 DCS Wiki! :book:
mikey Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 It was actually enabled, but as far as I know that option would be overridden anyway because ffb trim is not related to the "0.5sec to center" and/or "wait till centered" trim logics, which this option sets. I did disable that option though but yet again, no luck here so it must be something else? I've got 99 problems but my Ekran ain't one
bartleby Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I'm actually a little surprised that it worked for me, since I only saw after ordering it all the annoyances people had with it. The question then is: why does it seem to work for me? I didn't do anything beyond installing the drivers and plugging in the stick. Would offering my settings be useful? DCS Wiki! :book:
mikey Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I'm surprised too why this isn't working for me and it is for you. Afaik, I'm not the only one with this problem. I even reinstalled BS today and checked behaviour in 1.0.0 and 1.0.1, and no luck at all. Perhaps a list of version numbers (BS, logitech software, etc), exported logitech profile, or maybe even a track could help. I've got 99 problems but my Ekran ain't one
bartleby Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Profiler is version 5.08.146 BS is version 1.0.1 I'll post the profiles I use and try to get a track too a little later DCS Wiki! :book:
Lava Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 The stick works fine for me, I haven't had any problems like Mikey is reporting.
Gonzo01 Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 (edited) Depends what fine is for you. Mine is full of slop and if I take my hand off the stick it drifts all over the place. Even with my hand on the stick I cannot get it to hover correctly. I just spoke with Logitech support and they claim a Firmware and software update should be out in about two weeks. I won't hold my breath, but that shows their working on it. They even said that the firmware update would address the slop in the stick. I just hope they get it right. Edited May 10, 2010 by Gonzo01
mikey Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 5.09 has passed WHQL, QA has given the 5.09 drivers a thumbs up, firmware update for G940 has been tested and is recoverable as to prevent bricking of the controller, installer RC has been written, and QA is testing the installer now. Actually, they had it as of last week. I'm just waiting for QA to approve the installer, and I'll post the link once it goes live on the FTP (Website update will go after it's posted on the FTP). The software team included some gamepad improvements into 5.09 when given the chance, and the firmware updater has been improved. It's basically done and I'm just waiting for the QA team to finish the installer tests across all the languages we support. Link Good news, I hope 5.09 was worth the wait. I've got 99 problems but my Ekran ain't one
element1108 Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Just wondering if any of you guys can give me an update how the G940 works with Black Shark/Lomac/A-10C and if any of you guys are using it for Rise of Flight? Going to be getting a new hotas soon enough and i'm thinking between this or the warthog. Warthog will cost more plus I need to get rudders (X52 now). Thanks dudes.

I had the G940 and spent more time trying to get it working properly than actually using it. I couldn't get on with the 'slop' around joystick centre either. Some people seem to get on ok with them but it just wasn't for me. Yep, the WH is more expensive but I've tried it with DCS A10 and Rise of Flight and was impressed with both the feel and accuracy. Having tried both I'd say the WH is the better choice and well worth the extra outlay. Having said that a few people have had some teething problems with the WH since release. It might be worth hanging on a while to see what the score is with reliability and how it fares when the firmware update is released. There might be a price drop after Xmas also! 1

Ahhh thanks Sneakypete, I appreciate the feedback. I've been reading on the "slop" not quite sure what exactly it is, but given the name of it it doesn't sound pretty. I was hoping that the release of the new patch from Logi would have helped with this slop. Sounds like good advice to hold on for now, my ID wants the WH, but figured i'd look at a few options just to be sure in the end. +1 mate, thanks Edited December 5, 2010 by element1108
sneakypete Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 (edited) I've been reading on the "slop" not quite sure what exactly it is You're welcome mate, You can program in spring resistance on the G940 which is handled by the Force Feedback motors. Unfortunately, when the joystick is supposed to be at centre there is quite a lot of play before the motors come into effect which means the stick can (and does) have some free play around centre. Hard to describe but hope that makes sense. In effect if you're aircraft is in trim and flying straight and level and if you then take you're hand off of the G940 stick then it will move as there is no centre resistance. It's not a huge amount but enough of an annoyance for me to part with it. Some owners say they've not had this problem but I'm sceptical as an awful lot have. I'd hoped the software update would cure this but it never made any difference as far as I could tell. Logitechs' stance on this is that it would put too much strain on the motors to correct the problem so it probably will not happen. If you're a serious simmer then the HOGTAS is the way to go! :joystick: Cheers. Edited December 5, 2010 by sneakypete
