So sick of this problem!

Ok I'm getting issues again after a while of it workign ok....but randomly and quite often during flight the game will freeze for like 10-15 seconds and then assuming I havent crashed into the ground it resumes fine.

 

once I alt tabbed out during it and saw an error message stating "Display driver amd has stopped working and has recovered?" ...ALOT of ati users seem to have gotten a message liek this at some point on various games/systems. but for me this is the only program I ever have an issue with...I can do all sorts of intensive stuff all day but as soon as I pay lockon it freezes.

 

Heres my system specs...its more tha adequete for it.

 

ASUS Rampage II Extreme mobo

Intel Core i7 930

6 gig Mushkin ddr3-1600 running at ddrr3-1066

Crucial C300 128gb SATA 3 drive

500 gig data drive

Antec true power 750 PSU

Antec 1200 case

Thermalright Venemous X cooler

 

my idle temps are mid 20's-low 30's and load temps are mid 30's to low 40's

Sorry sir, but you have a display driver issue yet you didn't include your graphics card in your information... That's way more important than what cooler you have. ;)

 

Since it's an AMD display driver I assume it's an ATI card though. First steps would be to shut off Catalyst AI, second step would be to change to a different version of the driver suite. Copy-pasting the details of the crash and recovery from the event viewer might also furnish some information leading to a solution.

LOL missed the most important part!

 

it's an XFX Radeon 5870

 

Ive tried 4 different versions of catalyst I've also tried just instaliing the drivers with no catalyst. not sure if i'll get into any playing tonight...but soon as I do I'll clear all my event and error logs before I start FC2 and give you guys a copy of exactly whats happeneing. also my dxdiag comes back no problems.

That it comes back without problems listed doesn't necessarily mean that there are no problems. Might be stuff hidden in the device and driver lists that hide secrets as well. No hurt in having a look.

 

Also, is that Win7 or Vista? Is Aero on?

Windows 7 64bit Pro and yes aero is on..I can try it with it off too.

Just loaded up real quick with aero off and froze twice in 5 minutes of play.

It is a 2D-3D clock speed transition problem with ATI cards. you need to create a profile in catalyst to increase 2D clock speed. search in googlre how to do it..... I had the same problem with a HD5850. hopefully it helps you. Also, update to catalyst 10.4 at least

You may also give a go with other games. This sounds like suspiciously like a hardware problem, or card instability. I get these when I've overclocked it too much. You haven't mentioned overclocking so I assume you haven't, but if the problem persists in other games, you may just have received a faulty card, that you should replace...

You can press Pause/Break or Escape on keyboard to pause game until you deal with VPU Recovery. At least, plane won't crash.

yeah the event viewer is just those erros I posted....nothing for FC2 Specifically....I'm running everything stock.

 

I have many other newer/older games on this system and everything runs 100% rock solid....This is the only game giving me any trouble. Just really frustrating as I want to fly again lol.

By the way, I too am having this same problem of screen freeze from time to time for periods ranging from 3-8 seconds...which is an eternity if your nose down and turning...

Catalyst is typically released once a month, with the versioning being year+month, so "10.4" would be the version released in April of 2010.

At least I'm not the only one with the problem...ive tried catalyst 10.1-10.4 ive tried not even installing CCC and just the display drivers!

Are you mixing English FC2 with Russian patch or similar?

I would run a memtest. Even if all seems good with other games. If overclocked bring it back to stock. Just to be sure.

did that also..running stock, ran memtest came back 0 errors...I'll run it again just to make sure.

Which just so happens to be concurrent with a heavy graphics load as the land scenery is both panning and zooming from a first person perspective...

 

This would dovetail with the idea/notion that it is indeed related to graphics cards/graphics processing...
