Even with brightness and contrast at full it still appears solid black, I just can make out the ADI. I'm using a Samsung SM2233RZ.

A small note to the OP about this whole night thing:

You know the Kamov Ka-50 is not made to operate at night, right? The one and only concession made for night operation is the fact that you can slap on a set of NVG's (and then lose your HMS). Night flying simply isn't something that Ka-50 pilots do. ;)

Huh. You guys are the moderators for a reason :)

Alright gents. Now that I realize people care more about turning things into arguments than helping the fellow user out, I made sure all my posts are shining examples on perfection of the English language. In criticizing what was a major public release, I truly had no insight into what importance was placed on precise spelling and grammer on an internet forUM.

To give everybody an insight on how relevant things stay on topic on this forum, here are the stats. 27 posts were made. 5 of those were relevant solving the solution presented in the topic. That's 82% of the posts made in this thread that contributed into making this forum one step closer to an ugly place. If you choose to blame me, analyze first if you were one of those posts that were a part of that 82%. A mere 18% were relevant to the topic.

The problem is that in the real world it is very easy to start the KA-50, even in a pitch black environment. The two externals are the first and fourth switches and the two batteries are the second and third switches on the top row of the near vertical right panel; and there is a lone switch in the upper back left of the cockpit that provides enough light. Probably take you about 3 seconds. Since you cannot feel the switches in the game the devs should provide some other source of light. I think DCS is an awesome deal at $40. The lack of multicore processor support is bad though.

So you lack the muscle memory of a real pilot?

keyboard shortcuts

W - LCtrl - LShift - LAlt is the battery 2 cover

W - LCtrl - LShift is the Electrical power battery 2

K is the Lighting cockpit interior lamp switch

That is the solution right there, what are we still talking about? :smilewink:

There's no law saying that you have to use the default controls either! Set battery one switch to "B" and the light to "L." Hop in cockpit, hit "B" (twice, right for the cap?) and then "L" for the light. Easy-peasey. I've even gone so far as to remove all of the keybinds that I have absolutely no hope of memorizing anyway. Oh, RCtrl+RWin+RShift+Y is the cap on the ADI self test? OH SURE, I'll be using that. The upside is if you have a cat walk across your keyboard or press a key by mistake there's no "OK, what did that do?!?!"

Great idea!!!

I'm thinking of trashing every command with more than one modifier for starters.

The cool thing is that every time you add a new keybind (ya know, as it turns out to be needed) you pick what it is so there's a 1000% chance you'll remember it.

It's like that old trick when you move into a new home and have to decide which drawer the silverware should go in. Just pretend that you already live there and reach for the drawer that it would already be in.

Sounds like a good idea, I may do the same.

Looks like I will be doing a complete clean new install this weekend, even though 1.0.2 seemed to patch over 1.0.1 just fine, the general consensus seems to be the only way to do it right is over a clean instal of 1.0

I like the idea of clearing out the keybindings and adding the ones I really need and will use.

I said this before - I'm really surprised ED as developers of such a serious sim doesn't provide users with commands usage statistics.

That's why we need novint falcon support on Black Shark.

No, just kidding.

The closest to the tactil experience is the tooltips. I play that I'm "touching" the panels looking for the battery switch when I'm in a completely black cockpit at night by reading the tooltips that pop up. Although is truth than in real life, in combat environment, you won't walk at night to your mighty was machine without a little torch.

Imagination should fill the gap between simulation and real life.

When I was a teenager I had no sound card, nor joystick, 3D graphics consisted in a few color-flat triangles, flight model was minimalist, and what was installed from the disquettes was the final shape of the game/sim forever more (no updates). But, despite all this, I haven't experienced the immersion feeling and enjoyment of my computer time again since those days. Now, as adults, the toy is no more the core of the imagination game, but the game itself. And anything not covered by the toy it's considered a fault on the toy that must be fixed. Imagination is no longer the game.

Another non resolutive post, sorry :(

Thats the view from the cockpit even with all the lights outside though.

So those lights are as much use as a chimney on a dog ;)

That's really weird, as when I lean in so that the wash of the lights aren't in the screen the switches are visible to me on my screen (295 video card, Samsung syncmaster 226). Not great, but I can find them okay.

Somebody get Dragon to make a flashlight mod!

Is there a keyboard shortcut to turn the tooltips off once I have light?
