combatace Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Best is you get the startup manager which is free and from there you can shut down what ever you like. To support my models please donate to paypal ID: hp.2084@gmail.com https://www.turbosquid.com/Search/Artists/hero2084?referral=hero2084

HiJack Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 This is the one: Game Booster. Works compatible with PunkBuster, Cheating-Death, VAC, and any other anti-cheat software, Game Booster makes it simpler to enjoy the latest games and take your experience to a new level. All systems go! (HJ)
bumfire Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Dont go nuts and shut down stuff that Blackviper says is ok to shutdown, alot of those services are needed and just because Bviper says that they are ok to shutdown, the chances are that you will end up with something that wont work in your windows install. I think you are doing pretty good if you only have 40 processes running in windows 7 ultimate as thats what I use and I have 50 or so and I keep a tight clean ship, so god knows what all you have shut down. Windows 7 and vista is a totally different beast from XP and shutting all those things down is basically asking for trouble, having programs not start on startup is ok, but shutting down loads of services is aksign for trouble if you ask me.
Slayer Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 The best way is to use your user accounts and have a "gaming" account with everything not gaming related disabled. Most software installations nowadays offer the option when installing to use settings for "all users" or "per user", pick per user and turn off loading at boot time or get rid of unnescesary programs on that account. Account switching only takes seconds...even if you fully log out the other account. 124SqZeljava Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 @bumfire I have try that what Blackviper said, and kaboom, i did n`t bean able to install anything else, cos that service was shot down. But hey, that was not problem, just go MSCONFIG and if you don`t know which process you need to turn on, hit ENABLE ALL;) I think that APP that Crunch has suggested is ok, i just need time to work with it...
G3 Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I think you are doing pretty good if you only have 40 processes running in windows 7 ultimate as thats what I use and I have 50 or so and I keep a tight clean ship, so god knows what all you have shut down. just had a quick look and for reference my win7 64 ult install has 40 processes running with nothing more than A/V, firewall and firefox as additionally installed items. in msconfig you can tick the check box in "services" that says hide all microsoft services, unless it is the ms services you wish to reduce ticking this option should leave you with a list of 3rd party apps that may or may not be safe to disable, it's still best to tread carefully and do your best to understand what you are disabling. slayer, that user account idea sounds pretty good, are the settings for msconfig individual for each account?
coolts Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) A word of warning chaps. When i recommended black vipers page i should have added a health warning. If you are unsure of what you are doing or how to recover from shutting down something you shouldn’t have then step back, (do a system restore if you like, or a full backup / image). Always have an exit route, (as in FC2.0!) blackvipers site shows the default service list for various OS (and his stripped down versions scenarios. Some without networking, so be careful!), so you should be able to get back to where you started. Remember though that services that aren’t listed may be present in your system because of applications you have installed. 40 odd running processes sounds about normal to me. Vista & Win 7 have that many easily. I have 66 on my works laptop, but I’ve got all sorts of SQL bollocks in it. (note. xp had far fewer process running as separate applets because it had more running under the kernel, which lead to instability as if one of them crashed the whole OS came down) Check out sysinternals, (now owned by MS) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx Process explorer and process monitor should prove illuminating. Google what you don’t recognise but don’t treat Google posts as truth. I’ve seen posts on web forums stating that “system idle process is a virus” and people believing it as gospel because it was on the internet. To go back to your original post, “hide Microsoft services” is your friend as shutting anything none-MS shouldn’t harm windows. Apple bonjour, nvidia, and other bumf can all be done without having running 100% IMO. Just don’t disable your AV! in msconfig you can tick the check box in "services" that says hide all microsoft services, unless it is the ms services you wish to reduce ticking this option should leave you with a list of 3rd party apps that may or may not be safe to disable, it's still best to tread carefully and do your best to understand what you are disabling. good advice. I didn't mean to repeat :music_whistling: are the settings for msconfig individual for each account? no, they run under what used to be called in the XP days, "hardware profiles". These were removed by MS in Vista/7 IIRC Edited June 10, 2010 by coolts [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7 9700k | 32gb DDR4 | Geforce 2080ti | TrackIR 5 | Rift S | HOTAS WARTHOG | CH PRO Pedals
124SqZeljava Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 Okay, with Win7 and Game Booster and a lil my self msconfig changing stuff, i have 35 processes runing. Only thing what is left to do is turn on DCS BS and Free Track that is +2. I am satisfied with this set up very much. I believe that thing can go down for some more process, but i dunno what the rest of them are doing, i would have to ask Microsoft for that one:P that`s all, Cheers S!
